Default GT-40 rendered in AutoDesk Maya

all:
I typically install Maya onto our workstations at work and during the installation of the application, I usually just leave my desk for coffee, however, in the lastest release of Maya (2012), one artist's work was being displayed - it was a full render of a GT-40 in Gulf livery by an artist called Luis Nieves.

What's more, he's done it inside and out. This things looks spectacular from the cockpit, to the engine bay, to all doors opened... spectacular... I don't even think that's the proper word for it. You just have to see it to believe it so here's the site:

Ford GT40 3D Model by Luis Nieves

Enjoy.

Default Like the x-ray view but...

isn't the steering wheel way, way too big?
I'd say it's at least 33% smaller.Sorry to be so picky but I'm an artist too...

I thought so too... like BUS large, but here's a random old photo from a Google search (it's a true British built GT40):

From this photo, it looks rather large but then again, it's the 1965 era. I looked at his render again; I think the steering wheel is "too thick" so it appear a tad too large in diameter. I do see your point; in general, it's overall diameter seems too large. He has a "clay" of it from another angle and the clay actually looks OK. The head-on shot of the wheel seems too thick but I wonder if it's the perspective and/or lighting that makes it look larger?

Here's another one. Different car, but wheel looks the same (large). But as well, I have shots of original cars with small wheels too...
This guy has done some of the most realistic modelling and rendering I've ever seen. Full marks from me!

Cheers,
Glen
