But alas, I don't "get IT." BTW, T's are sold for under $40K all the time. Just peak at eBay, PCA Mart, early911sregistry, Rennlist or "The Bird."

Can't wait to see your CAV. Did you know CAV GT40's were also re-badged (and loaded with options) as BDR GT's? Cashburn will able to fill you in, because he sold them as our friendly neighborhood BDR dealer.

RodKnock....

2006 ERA 427 purchased for $39K......Enough said???

As to your Porsche questions...I've owned over 30...What would you like to know??

Again....Bottom line.....Those Porsche's are going UP in value, unlike any CAV on planet earth.

And YES I did know Back Draft is now selling re-badged CAV's....I guess I could call Peter at ERA and and spend $100K like some folks do for a new 427.....OR, I could do what I do with real estate and buy one for $39K....Gee, let me think.

Just sold my 69 911 running unrestored LHD in Aust to a guy in New Zealand as no one here wanted to pay 20 grand. The doors still shut like new and the original interior looked as good as new.

I'm not trying to break your beans here but when I see a car described as "running with a original interior." My brain translates that to.......Engine is running but will need rebuilding, car has common rust issues and needs paint.....In other words, you got $20K for a car that probably needs $30K in work....Not bad. Even BETTER when you consider that 10 years ago that was a $5000 Porsche!!!!

We'll see what happens with my search for a CAV....You guy's might be right....Or maybe NOT....Time will tell and I will report back either way.

Thanks for the replies....Lot's of interesting people here!!

Almost. It had three small holes in the floor in the channel under the passenger front pillar, they did not go into the car and were about 2 x 1/2inches for the largest one the rest was original and solid

So you did great!!!!

TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLAR$ for a Porsche that needs $30K worth of work!!! That's a nice piece of change my friend. AND...You were SMART...You DIDN'T take on a restoration and pour money into the car. You sold it (probably for a LOT more than you paid for it) and you rode the rising tide of early air cooled Porsche price appreciation.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY POINT!!!

As we all know those small holes turn into BIG $$$$ when everything in that car gets taken out and the real assessment is done.

Like I said......Air cooled 911's are going UP....The entire POINT of my post was give a real world scenario where a seller would GLADLY sell a car going NOWHERE for a vehicle moving up every year in value.

They are out there!!!

I bought my 4000 series Cobra around 2006 for $71,000 with an aluminum Shelby 427 in it with 18 miles on the odometer. I never thought that car would go up in price being a Kit Car. Their now getting north of 90K for them
I believe the same thing will happen to the ERA GT40's now that they are no longer available from ERA.

Please tell us about this purchase. When did you buy it? Do you still own it? Color, engine, etc. Do you have pics? What ERA #?

Looking forward to your CAV purchase. Post some pics.

I know of 2 who might sell, with a buyer-finders and seller 6% commission fee to buy either car. Being in real estate, you know how that goes. Here is what's different. First, neither seller is overly motivated to dump their cars. Both sellers are savvy owners (not desperate sellers), they know what these cars are. They also know what it cost to build and replicate them, and can sell overseas any time they are really ready to sell. Be prepared to step up to the plate to buy a nice CAV car as $70k won't cut it for either of these two cars. Around $89k including shipping US coast to coast, IF they decide to sell either car. It's a bit more of a sellers market on these than you may think, and time will tell to see how fast you can find one for $50k-$70k and how nice it is. I've seen a handful of nice CAV cars and a few that were not so great. Looking forward to seeing photos of what you get in your price range. May take a while. Good luck.

So far I've found TWO in my price range in less than 24 hours....

So much for a sellers market.

The potential sellers you described would NEVER work for me....For the same reason they don't work for me in real estate. I buy property from people that want to sell TODAY....Every single person I have ever purchased a property from could have sold it for MORE than I paid them...Sometimes 3 times more than I paid. The situations are all different. If someone out there has a GT40 sitting in their garage that they drive 1000 miles a year and that person has an opportunity to buy ANYTHING that they'll use more, or make money on....That GT40 is GONE!!! They can INSTANTLY raise the money to buy what they want by sending me a PM, as opposed to locking up additional capital.

I saw a deal on a GULF painted GT40 a few months ago that went for short money because the seller had to close on a new house he purchased. He got a killer deal on the property that MORE than made up for the small hit he took on the car...He said he used the car 3 times last year...He figured the new HOUSE he bought would be more enjoyable. So he dumped his GT40. He was SMART!!!!

I do this ALL DAY, EVERYDAY with MULTIPLE 6 figure properties.....

A 5 figure car deal is easy.

I'm here folks....READY TO BUY!!! Don't pass up an opportunity to get something you'll USE EVERYDAY as opposed to something you WALK BY everyday!!!!!

A PLEA TO ALL CAV OWNERS WHO ARE THINKING OF SELLING THEIR CAV’s TOO CHEAP. DON'T!

It is my sincere hope that these two potential (or any) CAV owners realize that they can sell their CAV’s for MORE money by advertising their cars on GT40s.com, CobraCountry and here on ClubCobra and ignore the pleas of this car dealer. Here’s a car dealer who prays on vulnerable and/or desperate owners. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CARS. This an enthusiast’s site and not a pawn broker shop.

BTW, the OP purchased ERA 717 for $39,000, invested at least $2,500 at ERA’s shop from what I’m told, and then sold it for $42,000. This was the ERA with engine (428) problems. So, I’m not sure how much money, if any, the OP makes on his or her car deals.

Here’s the link to the thread that I started when ERA 717 was posted for sale recently:
A $42k era?

WTF....if you have a willing buyer and a willing seller you have a deal.

That is what markets are all about.

Sure, you should be aware of the available ways to advertise your item, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with advertising for a distressed sale

Every Investment bank I know of has a section that does just that... is devoted to that approach.

In fact buying low is what investing is all about.

Thank You Bartruff1

RodKnock is CLUELESS about what I do and who I am...

But let me set the record STRAIGHT since he decided to question my integrity in public.

I purchased ERA 717 last year for $39.5K from the original owner off an ad on craigslist. After owning it for a while I noticed the car using oil....I made an appointment at ERA for them to do a few things to the car and determine why it was using oil. ERA told me they thought it needed rings. They added a set of their quiet pipes and I spent about $2600 total. Pete at ERA said the car was one of the nicest driving 427's he had been in. (Pete took the car for the weekend because at first we thought it might just need intake gaskets)

So.....Here's what a DIRT BAG I AM.

I disclosed EVERYTHING about the car when I decided to sell it. PLEASE READ THE AD on Cobra Country...It's still there.

I placed the car on Cobra Country for $42K...what I had into it.

Bill (Mr. Mustang) called me within hours of the car going online and offered me a lowball number (HIS words not mine...I guess HE was TRYING TO PREY ON THE DESPERATE and VULNERABLE TOO!!!) I had 5 other people interested at this point. Bill called back a little while later and offered FULL ASKING price. This was on a Friday. I told him I had a lot of people interested. He told me he would overnight payment for the car. I had 4 other offers on the car over the weekend....ALL of them OVER BILLS OFFER!! AND.....Bills check wouldn't arrive until MONDAY AFTERNOON.....Plenty of time to take ANY of the OVER ASKING offers I had on the car.

But being the DIRT BAG I am.....I sold the car to BILL for $42K......How many CAR DEALERS (people who sell cars for a LIVING would do this?)

Rodknock.....You sir are a piece of S**T!!!!

As to me being a Car Dealer....That is UNTRUE.....I own numerous commercial properties....ONE of them has a dealers license. I have NOTHING to do with that business other than the license must be held in the property owners name. I sold ONE CAR this year....It was the 427 Cobra Bill purchased from me.....MY OWN CAR.

This is what happens when a MORON gets a little bit of information instead of the WHOLE STORY!!!!!

Check the ad on Cobra Country....Ask Mr Mustang.....He KNOWS I had offers over his....They came from PEOPLE HERE....But he ended up with the car because I pride myself in doing what I tell people I will do. Also NOTE the ad on Cobra Country said $42K OBO....If I wanted to I could have sent Mr. Mustang's check right back to him the day it got here and there wouldn't have been a THING he could have done about it....WE had NOTHING in writing.....But I did what I told him I would do. Because he did what he said he would do....Great guy, easy transaction. End of story. Again, How many CAR DEALERS would do this???

AND.....Once he gets that engine squared away HE can make MONEY on that car.....He told me he's had 24 COBRAS over the years....I guess according to RODKNOCK....He's must be a DIRT BAG CAR DEALER TOO!!!! Imagine all the VULNERABLE people he's PREYED on over the years.

And god forbid he sells that car for a PROFIT??? What a dirtbag he'd be then!!!

Rodknock......GET A LIFE!!!

I'm looking for a CAV GT40.....Rodknock is the only one here who apparently has a problem with someone trying to find a great deal on a car...You know....Like MR. MUSTANG FOUND.....From ME...The car dealer....You can't make this sh*t up.

Here's the BEST part.....I've been around cars my entire life....Do you have any idea how EASY it would have been to sell that car WITHOUT disclosing ANYTHING about that Engine and get $50K for it??? Some heavy weight oil in that crank case and no more smoking...That car would have been GONE on day one at $50K and I could have made money on it....But that's bullish*t.....I believe in what goes around comes around...SO....The car went to a guy that knows whats wrong with it, knows how to fix it, and he got a great deal on it...

If that's PREYING on the Desperate and Vulnerable......I guess MR. MUSTANG IS GUILTY AS CHARGED!!!!

SO....

I ENCOURAGE anyone looking to sell their CAV GT40 to check EVERY SINGLE WORD I have typed here for accuracy....Look at the history on this site and you'll see my posts asking about oil consumption...READ the ad for the car.....and LOOK at Mr. Mustangs new post titled OUT with the OLD, IN with the NEW....That's my old car in the picture..

If you want to deal with an HONEST PERSON that has the CASH ready to buy your car with NO BS....Just drop me a line and move on with whatever you want to buy with the GT40 money!!!

Thanks Rodknock....By questioning my integrity you gave me a great opportunity to give potential GT40 sellers detailed information about what type of person they'll be dealing with....My guess is, based on the PICTURES I have coming in of GT40's for sale....YOU put me over the top!!!

Pete

You sure do, but I can speak my mind. Free speech, baby! I'm making a plea to these or any CAV owners to have patience and hold out for more money. Advertise globally. There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving folks advice on a public forum about their money. Patrick does it all the time.

And I'm not stopping him from making any deals.

As for the OP calling me names (I'm a piece of poop, dirt bag, etc.) and debating him and wasting time and space, well, I'll let that go. The Buddha said "hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule."

Entertaining thread to read. When someone goes on and on about how they only buy low and sell high, never make a wrong investment move, etc., I tune out and because I know it's BS. Their voice becomes a dial tone, because it just isn't interesting.

Good luck on the GT40 purchase. Can't wait to hear the story about the deal of century.
