I have a CAV GT40 small block car with a ZF transaxle. The chassis number is 169, it currently has 2800 miles on the odometer. The car is well sorted and properly tuned. I have it for sale on Cobra country/GT40 ad page. It is Gaurdsman Blue with Wimbleton White stripes. Take a look.

That's going to be a tough one.......maybe a very early chassis.

A guy in Washington State just sold a 2002 CAV GT40 for $59K last week on the GT40 website. Car was well known there and apparently very nice.

Most buyers want a 911 Turbo or something that they can drive to work everyday, get in and out of easily, has heat and a radio and take it back to a Porsche dealer to trade in for a newer model when they want to....GT40's are a different animal...they appeal to a much smaller audience. I've seen some of these cars for sale for YEARS without selling. Some of the sellers are unrealistic about what their cars are really worth.

About a year and a half ago Europe swallowed up all these cars in this price range when the exchange rate and economy were different.

That $59K car sold LAST WEEK....To a guy in Michigan!!! There's a CAV GT40 Spyder for sale in CT right now for $79K with 2200 miles on it. It's been for sale FOREVER....My guess is $10K off that number would get a deal done...So there ARE cars out there for $50K-$70K

You are more in the GTD or Tornado range. You will be hard pressed to find a decent Mono CAV for that kind of money.

That's EXACTLY what realtors tell me all the time!! I buy houses like most people buy socks.

Bought a 2 bed ranch last week in Southern New England with a new roof and new heating system.....It's assessed for taxes by the Town at $138K.....I paid $25K....The house was NEVER listed with a realtor. I advertised for it, and the owner called me because he didn't want to deal with nit wits that don't know what they were doing. I buy all my cars the same way....From people NOT trying to squeeze every nickel out of a car...They just want to move it FAST with minimal BS!!!

They can call ME...I'll meet them at their local POLICE STATION if that's how they want it done.

OR....They can invite someone they don't know a thing about to the front door of their home.

It can be done folks. Believe me, I do it everyday!

Those realtors look at me like i have 3 heads when they see the posted real estate transaction prices in our local papers....These are the same "experts" who say it can't be done. I LOVE it!!!!

Here's my prediction....Somewhere out there is an owner with a CAV GT40 sitting in a garage that he never drives....It's basically a pile of $$$$....At some point maybe that guy gets a line on a car he KNOWS he'll drive everyday...OR...He has a business opportunity that requires 5 figures in cash.....He can keep his CAV (which he doesn't use) OR he can turn that car into money that he can use to make more money!!! Whatever hit he takes on the car, he makes up for with his new opportunity or the great deal he gets on his NEW ride.

That is the EXACT scenario that lead me to a 2006 ERA 427SC for $39K that I drove home!!

Cliff's car, yes. $60K was underpriced and sold very quickly. $70K is possible, but not probable. Now, that blue/white CAV in San Carlos at $140K is dreaming.

If someone has an opportunity to buy say a Pre 1973 Porsche 911 at a great price or a great property at a bargain number....They're not a desperate seller. They're just freeing up a pile of money wrapped in something they don't use for something they will!!! And SPEED is the KEY!!!!!!

WIVES especially LOVE the freeing up the $$$$ scenario I just laid out. ALL sides get what they want...My seller gets his new car, or business opportunity, or property. I get the car I'm looking for and his wife doesn't watch 5 figures coming out of the bank account to buy another garage statue!

I can get a deal done for a seller in ONE DAY. Send me a PM if you want to deal with an honest person who has the cash to get a deal done with no aggravation.

Long distance transactions can be a pain in the @ss....Especially when you're dealing with a buyer that is clueless when it comes to these cars. I don't need a mechanic to do a pre purchase inspection on any car that I'm buying. I know what I'm doing and won't waste a sellers, or MY time.

Yes!!! Look at PRE 73 911 prices......7 years ago those cars were $10K- $15K.

Let's face FACTS......These GT40's are KIT CARS....Like it or not....That's the reality of the market place when it comes to these cars.....ERA 427 Cobras have been in the $50K range for 20 Years. I know...I've purchased them over the years. These cars are NOT good investments....BUT....A well bought 911 can be a HELL of an investment. And it won't take you a YEAR to sell it should you decide to.

Pre- 73 911's have gone from $10K.....7 to 9 years ago....to $80K+++ today.

If you find a really nice Pre 73 911 coupe that you could grab for $40K....You could make $$$$ on that car everyday you owned it. Unlike a CAV that costs $100K + to build and is worth a FRACTION of that a year later.

Personally, I've been recommending 1984-89 Porsche 911's as investment grade cars to anyone I know....As the prices of the pre 73 cars explodes, the later cars have nowhere to go but UP....Especially when you consider how much BETTER those 84-89 Carrera's are!!! Better driving, more modern features, but a true air cooled 911 experience that will do 80 MPH all day long and still get 26 mpg with an engine that will go 250,000 miles without a problem. And those cars are built like TANKS....I have 3 of them. Last of the HAND BUILT 911's....We will NEVER see their likes again. Close the door on a 84-89 Carrera and you'll understand what true quality is all about. I have a paintless dent removal guy that I've used for years that HATES working on these 911's because the sheet metal is so much THICKER than current cars. It takes him 3 times as long to work his magic on these old 911's.
