Real or replica? Did someone say that?
Another thread that degenerated to "Real or Replica" without me.
Very simply this again is what is considered "better" to the purchaser. Many criteria are subjective many are objective.
I like the fact the Spf's are factory built and have license from Safir and are th only cars legally that can be called GT40's from the factory. Replica of the original but a damn nice one and legally a GT40.

Just like yours. ;)

Jeez, Now you guys are following me!. You dropped in here just to add that?
Shoo. Shoo. Go away. Hurry up and get back to the "sticky thread" where you guys can continue your "circle J$#k on your never ending quest prove the continuation current production Cobras are (alas) nothing more than mere replicas to each other.
Don't worry, I'll check back in there in few days to see you guys are making out and if any progress as been made in changing the facts and law and for a few laughs. :)

No, and no. BUT if you do not enjoy working on them to get the initial jetting perfect, then save yourself the aggravation and get an 8 stack FI system.

To the OP:
I see "retro", " raw" and "wife/passenger car feeling" (vs race/kit) as qualifiers for your search. I also see you have a Porsche and mention Lambo / Ferrari.
So I'm not quite sure where you want to be on the comfort and utility scale.
My suggestion would be to compare side-by-side a (any above mentioned) GT40 and the Ford GT. Both these cars are considered retro but are worlds apart in terms of physical size, ergonomics and application.
You may find you are a better candidate for a FGT than the 40.
Let us know what you think.
Best, Bret.

Guys,
The OP was a "hit and run." He hasn't been back. Word is that he was scared off by the "is it real" discussion, and invested all of his funds in a Trabant restoration business.

I am in the process of building a RCR GT40. I got it last March after visiting RCR in Michigan and talking at length with Fran. It is quite a place and his engineering and the monocoque chassis are impressive.
It sat in my garage for 3 months before I could get myself to do anything - it was overwhelming! I now work on it a little most days. It is fun and challenging to figure things out.
