Engine can be done for 10K (dependent upon power level and induction type), light on a new RBT-ZF transaxle.

I've seen rebuilt ZF's for $10K. And you can probably order a basic SPF GT40 roller for around $120,000-$125,000 w/some options.

Personally, I'm not fond of the wide body, so that's an option I'd not need, if I were interested.

I said and engine CAN be done for 10K but it certainly won't be an aluminum block, or a stroker or 8 stack/Webers, etc.

And you CAN buy a -2 ZF from a Pantera for 5 grand and have it GT40 ready for 7K but it will be a 4.22 final and used.

It's not about what most people do in their GT build-outs, the point was it is possible.

Yes, all I was pointing out was you can spend less or more depending on your budget. Craft Engines can build a stroker SB for $10K:

SBF Street/Performance - Craft Performance Engines

I'm not saying I would use them (Craft), but that ad was easy to grab. We have a CC member who had a nice 289/302 built for his 289 Cobra for a lot less than $10K. We had an Australian member build a $60K Cammer for his Kirkham. I can tell you guys this, if I'm going to spend $20K on a SBF, then it better be a stroker, say like a 331, with some fancy induction setup, Carillo rods and a Moldex crank.

All this GT40 talk has me thinking again. I just have to keep reminding myself that sitting in a GT40 felt like having an MRI done in one of those claustrophic tubes.

I can understand replacing your engine with something else, but repainting the entire GT40? Why?

And you don't like MRIs? H@ll I fall asleep with all of the buzzing, clanking, etc. Last one for my shoulder I was bummed when they rolled me out as I was getting the best nap I have had in some time.

You either really "get" the GT40 or you don't. I miss mine. However, I took a neighbor who has had numerous Corvettes for a ride and didn't make it quarter mile before he begged to turn around, he is claustrophobic and the small cabin and lack of roll down windows freaked him out!

The linky no worky.

I get the GT40, aesthetically beautiful, but it's so small. I'm a pretty in-shape limber kinda person, and I wasn't a big fan of getting in and out of the car. And there are no windows! And all those switches made me nervous.

Who knows, maybe I'll try again someday. If the 911 keeps going up in value...

I fall asleep in MRI's almost right away. They give me a set of headphones and you can give them a CD or your phone and they will pump your fav music in! They always have to wake me up!

Yes, I can understand the comment about claustrophobia. They are tight quarters cars and when you think about it, they were designed that way for a reason. 1 driver and intended to race. No frills. Same as the IMSA cars racing today.

Actually, some of the same components and some better and more $$ but then again there's quite a bit more to an engine build than just the components. Thanks for playing.

Indeed. One of the things that attracted me from my Ford GT to the GT40 was in essence, it is a blank canvas that I can paint however I decide. The car may get a new livery again in it's lifetime. I really like the livery on this Gelscoe that won Goodwood this year. It could end up with Webers before the year is out who knows. I can't imagine a person who thinks fully adjustable suspension equates to adjustable geometry being able to get a set of Weber's jetted correctly at
Colorado altitudes. You should stick to the 4 barrel, it will likely better suit your mechanical aptitude and driving ability.

I'm not a huge fan of green cars, but I like that green one. At least it's a bright hue. White cars remind me of an appliance on wheels.

And nothing wrong with stroking an engine unless you're qualifying for a race, which requires a cap on displacement. Makes ZERO sense to me, and most of us, not to take an advantage of free cubic inches.

Webers at altitude? Oy vey. Good luck with that.

He's trolling Bernica. I'm guilty as anyone for feeding him.

I hate to stereotype, but the preponderance of "continuation" (clone/replica/tribute) owners think their $hit don't stink for some reason.

As least SPF pays Shelby for the license to use the name Cobra. SPF has to pay Safir somebody to use GT40. Anyone that sticks/paints Ford on the exterior of their SPF replica seems to me to be committing fraud in the consumer's mind. Should write "SAFIR" on the side.
