Post "Real" GT-40's

First, I must admit I know nothing about GT-40's, however was curious to know what original GT-40's are unaccounted for if any? I was at a place to have my Cobra looked at today and in a warehouse next to their shop I saw 3 original GT-40's among 128 other classic muscle cars this guy had. I was told they finished 1-2-3 at some point in time. You would not believe the cars that were in this warehouse, 2 original Shelby Cobras, 3 Lambo's, Daytona Ferrari, which I was told was 1 of only 7 left and a ton of other muscle cars. You name it, he had it in there.

I am scheduled to go back next week to have my car weighted and will try to get some pictures, but would like to provide the GT-40 crowd with more details if you can let me know what if info if any you'd like to know about these cars....

Question Did they allow pictures

VenomHunter

No doubt serial numbers will tell the real story, but it sounds like you should have had a great visit and a really good opportunity to see some real history there.

Hope you enjoyed it. Sure some pictures would be great.

How did you go..

Bernie

IMO, it is very unlikely that the cars that you saw are original GT40s. I have been "into" GT40s for over 40 years and owned my original Mk I #P1040 for 27 years. While new information does surface from time to time, it most often is about minor details. The ownership histories and racing careers (of those GT40s that were raced) of virtually every original GT40 have been well documented by Ronnie Spain, John Allen, Trevor Legate (their books on GT40s can be found at Amazon and used book web sites) as well as others. Although I don't have my GT40 reference material here at the office, the only 1-2-3 GT40 finish that I can recall was 1966 Le Mans with chassis numbers 1046, 1015, and 1016 (I believe), all big-block Mk IIs. Each of those cars is owned by a different individual today. Potomac is not too far from where I am in Annapolis. Send me a PM and we can get together. I have about every book ever written about GT40s.

Come on over to www.gt40s.com , I imagine you were standing in someone's shop there, or someone that knows that person and they can tell you the story of those three cars. They are not the original cars though, they are already in the hands of collectors around.
