Another Company is Building CAV GT40s
There has been an announcement made over on the GT40s forum that CAV GTs are now being made by another company called CARCRAFT SA, a company run by John Spencer and Jean Fourie in Capetown.
They also say that the GT will be delivered as a kit too. I
don't know if they will still be the monocoque chassis or not.
CAV has auctioned off most of their assets and sold their two facilities. There has been no formal announcement from CAV about their situation. What ever it is, it's not looking good.
As far as Shelby and CAVs business...that remains to be seen. I think that is something better left to them.

CAV is either going under or reorganizing their business. My guess is they are reorganizing and concentrating on their new SAI relationship.

The auction situation was in the newspaper and on the web in September. Now I can't find it.
However, is CAV continuing or not? I assume the former CAV GT40 will not be called a CAV GT40 any longer? Will CAV dealers become dealers for the new company? I have no clue what is happening.

That CAV 40 looks like a great car. Sounds to me like everyone is afraid of a company going under. I'll let you in on a fact: Most companies like this don't stay around, it's just too tough a market to last. I know, I bought a new Indian motorcycle back in 02'. Now the company has gone under. Luckily for me, I bought the Scout, which featured a high performance S&S engine instead of a proprietory engine from Indian, so I can still get parts. I think it's sad that American car builders don't make super cars like the europeans do. I know Ford is coming out with the 'new' Ford GT, but it cannot compare with many of the 'kit' cars I have seen that were home built.

RallyRacer,
I'm interested in what attributes the home-built cars have that outshine the new GT.
thanks!

I would say to start PRICE!...you can do a nice replica GT for around $85 or so..correct me here if I am wrong guys.
Even though the new GT lists at $135 you aren't going to see it there for a while. The guess is $200 if you get one the first year and then who knows.
Personally I would love to have a new GT but I don't think it will be in my range for another 10 years....thats why I want one of the new Superformance GT40's and I can put a nice little 331 with webers in it

CAV GT40's
427aggie,
Just think you could have bid $76,000 for Pressly's GT40 at the BJ auction and walked off with it, carrying a bit of Dale Earnhardt and Sheryl Crow video footage as a keepsake.
The messages we are getting from CAV are not good, why they continue selling the GT40 under the website is crazy, maybe they are changing the paper work on receiving the deposit funds in SA to help on re-organizing, Ill bet that's it. But that's kind od a scary route to take, even with an established company, when it's confirmed that Shel's walked off with 90% of their workforce and a lot of equipment for SAI's investment, huh?
And no New Zealand cars anymore, that only leaves Holman Moody MKII's or an ERA at 3 years. I've waited thru the 90's to get one and when we finally decide go all this happens.
Anyone have spare body parts for sale?

FourUnlimited
That USA Web Site link is for a USA DEALER, it is NOT the manufacurer. I would guess that the dealer here in the USA will no longer be able to get new product. Because CAV as we formerly knew it simply no longer exists. It is now owned and operated by SAI and is in a new location. I highly doubt they will be offering "product" to any of the "old" (original?) dealers of the CAV car.

You also have Tornado (U.K.), GTD (U.K.), and DRB (Aust.) for choices too.
Come on over to www.gt40s.com and do some surfin/research over there.
I too am looking for a kit in the future but my personal timing isn't going to be until a couple years down the road most likely.
You could also buy a "used" GT-40 that has been on the road a while and mod/restore it to your liking too.

Hi Hersh
If you check this site out before the Australian Club Forum site, shoot back over to the Aussie site and Post a reply on the Roarin' 40's Thread there.
Chasing dates that you are in Melbourne Australia.
I have tried to phone you once or twice. You were out.
Or maybe it was me ringing you at 4.00am. Sorry.
Cheers
Bernie
