David,
Just finished reading the new Motor Trend in which they test a
Ford GT alongside the new 500 hp Viper. They pretty much run neck and neck only real big difference is the Viper costs Considerably less. Granted the GT has alot more trick stuff on it but for the extra cash I could get a nice Cobra to go along with the Viper.

Have a good one,
Dan

p.s. If I had the cash I would buy the GT myself. Good luck and have fun, I am envious....

Cool Just curious???

David,

Just wondering what you had to pay for the GT??? Also Ford stated at the L.A. Auto show that dealers wouldn't know until May which dealers get the GT...

Congrats on the ERA and welcome to Club Cobra!!!

David, did you see the Car & Driver Comparo against the Porsche GT3, and a Ferrari model whose name escapes me at the moment? According to C&D, it wasn't even close....GT40 superior in all categories. They concluded the only supercar that could touch it would be the Ferrari Enzo listed at $600K+, but I think now routinely selling above $1M.

Congratulations.....

yep I saw it. it was the 360 m, you were thinking of.
no doubt that the GT is up there with the big boys.
it just so happens I have the GT3, and I am looking foward
to doing some up close and personal testing.

Whoa,

You just plunked down some serious change for a car that you, at least to date, haven't even read about?

Are you looking to adopt someone, I could be looking for a new mom & dad

(edit - sorry, missed your last post, I guess you have read about the car)

My understanding of Ferrari 360 Modena vs Ford GT is this:

The Ferrari will ultimately out-handle the Ford, but you have to be one hell of a driver to do it. An average guy can take the Ford to 90%, the Ferrari feels so much more "nervous" at that level, and demands far more driver input.

The Ford guys done good.

Spoke with a gentleman yesterday, claimed to have talked to a dealer near the Ozarks that is getting alotted 3 cars. They claimed to have sold one for $287,000.00 and customer put up a $100,000.00 deposit rest will come on delivery. They did unload one here this week for the New Car show here in Omaha, no one expected it to be here.

It never ceases to amaze me how much of a premium people will pay to be first on the block, in the city, of the county, in the state...etc. $50K paid by David is about what I thought the premium would be, but somebody willing to pay almost 100 percent over msrp??? That's crazy.

I just, like 2 weeks ago got the ERA 427, when I was in Conn,
I saw a few ERA GT40's. .... next on the list, or the new shelby mustang?
I did speak to Peter at era about the gt 40 vs. the GT (2005)
and thats where we ended up, with knowing he will be the first one I take for a ride.

So what is the final retail price of the GT? I've heard 150k and 159k. I'm surprised dealers are taking deposits, if I was a dealer that got a car I'd Ebay it.

southernfriedcj,

The last I saw (in Autoweek) the list was 139.5k

Outside of my price range. I guess I'll have to wait a few years and buy a used one.

First, thanks for your candor regarding what you are paying for a GT. Also thanks for the other comments. I work for a dealer and we are still trying to decide how to handle the sale of our GTs to maximize our return without offending anyone.

Just for the record: We do not know the MSRP of the GT, but expect it will be just below $150K. We do have pretty firm info on options, equipment, colors, etc.

The dealers know how many cars they will get. Production will be about 800 - down from the 1,000 originally predicted. I predict that over a third of those will be bought by dealers and Ford executives. We are also hearing rumors that there are many potential overseas buyers.

Keith

PS: Regarding color, I really like the white!

Not to rain on the parade, but something's fishy here. Anybody else pick up on it?
