Thumbs up Sensational "Roarin Forties' GT40

Had an opportunity today to go right over a GT40 from "Roarin Forties".

Must say I was very very impressed with both the finish and the construction of the GT40.

It just happened that he was driving through to Adelaide today and dropped into our restaurant. I was really impressed with all of the fittings on the car and the general finish of the body work and all the aluminium panels etc.

It is obvious that the efforts the guys from 'Roarin Forties' put into their car sets the standard for owners to build onto completing a very nice GT40.

Well done guys. Hell if I could fit into one I would be tempted.

Watched with envy as he drove off towards Adelaide.

Cheers

Bernie

I have a hard time believing that I would fit into the new Ford GT, let alone an exact replica (they would most likely have to put a Gurney bubble in the roof for me), Im not exactly stick man either

Just curious - what are the interior dimensions of a GT40? I'm 6'5" and would be concerned about the leg room more so than head room (Double Gurney Bubble for me).

I'm not sure on the exact dimensions on the 40' maybe ERA has them on their website, but I do know that the GT's that ran LeMans had a fuel cell tank surrounding the driver

Lightbulb I can fit - just give me the keys

Tony, Mike

Hi guys

I'm just on 6' and medium build (seriously).

I had no trouble getting into the GT40 and found that I had plenty of leg room. In fact there was lots of room around my feet and I had a good seating position.

Overall, the interior comfort, sitting position was good for me.

However, when he closed the door I found the roof was close to my head (enter the Dan Gurney bubble).

I was told ( and have previously been shown by Roarin Forties) that the floor, seat can be lowered to suit.

I built my Cobra with the floor below the chassis and this drops me right down in my Cobra, as I am long in the body. Apparently there is an option to drop the floor down a little in the Roarin Forties as well as seats to fit bigger owners in.

I guess it's this that makes the GT40 appealing to me. Seriously I was quite envious when he drove off. It would not have taken much to convince me to come along for the ride.

Cheers

Bernie

PS Hershal Byrd - BTSNAKE on this 'forum' is the Roarin Forties agent there in Arizona.

Hey Bernie, do you hav link to the website for me? The price of the Ford GT (around $150,000) scared me off, but I have to "test drive" one to see how much the friction there is against the rear tires and the pavement:LOL The price of the turnkey ERA kind of scared me too ($110,000):EEK

I have seen it somewhere on the forum for the GT40. Will see if I can find it.

Do know Hershal Byrd - BTSNAKE is the agent there. Again will see if he has some details there somewhere.

Cheers

Hey at 140 lbs you don't need a GT40 just a horse and a racetrack.

I was also 140 lbs - at High School. Then I found beer, fine food and good women.

I haven't seen 140 since I was about 13. Now I'm down to 225.

I tried to sit in a CAV GT last year and couldn't close the door without cutting me off at the ears and the footbox was pretty tight for my size 12's.

Never tried a Roaring 40's. Can the Roaring 40's run a big block?

Thumbs up

Hey Guys,
no offense was intended on the Bozo color thing. I have no intention of insulting anyone. I really personally do not care for those colors. Those colors truley remind me of Bozo and I can't get past it enought to have a GT painted like that even though it did win LeMans. Bernie, I do like the red with Yellow stripes though..that was funny and it would be a hell of a company write off.
There is a lot more you can learn about GT40s over at www.GT40s.com
It's full of info concerning all makes of GTs. The RF sight is www.roaringforties.com.au
We are in the proccess of getting a new sight up soon.
The RFGT40 has lots of room for adjustment for tall drivers. I think there is a limit though. At knotts there was two gentlemen there over 6'. One guy was 6'4" and the other was 6'3". The taller fellow fit in the RFGT40 just fine. He would only require the pedals to be moved back. The 6'3" fellow did not fit at all. His head stuck out of the top by 4". It turns out that the shorter fellow had a taller torso and that made it harder for him to fit. Even a Gurney bubble wouldn't help.
If anybody has any questions about the RF GT's please shoot me an email and I will send you my phone number if you prefer to talk.

Hersh

Hershal

Good to catch up today and have a chat.

Sounds like you need a beer and a swimming pool there in Arizona. Hell that's hot there.

We are currently at 13c (56f). Suns out though. If the Cobra was out of the paint shop I would have gone for a quick drive.

Sorry had to fly and cut the phone call short but it got busy here at work and they needed me.

Cheers

Bernie
