GT40 chassis number location?

Hello everyone, I am wondering if someone can tell me where the chassis number is stamped on a genuine GT40?

Please dont tell me how it should look or what sequence it should be in as I want to look at it and post here what the number I see is, and maybe someone here can tell me about it?

I think this very car has been discussed on www.gt40s.com and from one of the owners it was discovered that is was a damn good copy. They are currently discussing what to do with it and some possible legal/retibution toward the previous owner. I'll have to see if I can find the number for you.

The chassis plate is frequently located in the engine compartment on the rear of the bulkhead. But, there are plenty of replica chassis plates too, so that doesn't go far to prove it is real or not. I have replica chassis plates myself that are indistingushable from real FAV plates.

For the vehicle to be registered in Australia then it will require a 17 character vin # I pressume that the genuine cars didnt have 17 character vin# ?

Should the number be stamped somewhere that is fairly accesable?

Also do you know where in Australia the car that you refer to is located?
Alice Springs isnt exactly the sort of place I would expect to hear a genuine GT40 to be.

From what I have been told about this car (second hand info so not 100% reliable) is that the person who owns it purchased the car from an associate by the name of Alan Mann, he was the manager/director for Ford Australia raceing division somewhere dureing the 60's or 70's.
I think he has owned the car for afew years, atleast 4-5 from what I have been told, possablly alot more.

He is planing on painting the car yellow with black stripes (sadly the same colors I am painting my Cobra replica) So I dont know if this is the original color but I would pressume so (I know if I was restoreing an original car I would paint it original color)

Alan Mann used a series of chassis numbers that were somewhat different from the original numbering system used by FAV for the 5 chassis he purchased directly from Abbey Panels. That said, this could be a clever ruse in an attempt to explain a non-standard chassis number. To my knowledge there were AMGT-1, AMGT-2, XGT-1 and XGT-2. AMGT-1 is owned by a man in Ohio who still hopes to rebuild it from a wreck it suffered under different ownership many years ago. AMGT-2 is owned by a man in Pennsylvania. XGT-1 is owned by a man in Texas. XGT-2 was owned for years by Holman-Moody, but is now believed to be owned by a man in Iowa. AMGT-1 & 2 were lightweight Aluminum bodied cars and the, as yet, unmentionded 5th tub, also with an aluminum body, was recently discovered, about to be put into a dumpster in England and is presently being restored by Chris Melia.

That accounts for the the 5 Alan Mann cars, so I doubt seriously if this car is one.

XGT-3 is the 5th Alan Mann car. Like XGT-1 and -2, it is a Mk 2 and is distinguished by the fact that it was never period-raced, only vintage raced. It is also "accounted-for".
