Ford GT prices dropping

The web site makes a strong case for the GT prices "falling" as supply increases.

Note: A Hawaii Ford Dealer just sold a GT for $285K, white with a blue stripe. That particular car was purchased by the dealer from a dealer on the mainland, and the "dealer markup" was clearly shown on the price list. Not all dealerships can get a GT directly from Ford.

Just last month a dealer in Vegas said they were taking bids above $285K...I said Go Luck and good bye.

No doubt there are currently THE coolest car out there. IF I was rolling in dough, I would consider one, even at an elevated price.

However, even IF I was rolling in dough I would seriously consider a "replica", like an ERA. I would be just as happy, I think more so, with a marque leaning a little more toward "old school". Not to mention save a ton of money!

Could it be the prices are dropping because when Ford goes out of business you won't be able to get parts?

ford going out of business ? dream on...and pigs can fly, right ?

many of the cars for sale are looking for the high 'add on' dealer extra margin gross...and if they get it , then fine. otherwise, many of those cars will be tucked away somewhere for future value appreciation/speculation. my guess is many of the dealers dont care if they sell or not as they plan on hoarding them for the future. others who want to sell will lower their asking price re extra margins...just like we saw with the vipers, prowlers, even the pt cruisers. they try to get the big deal early on, and over time lower the price to more reasonable rates when the public says NO DEAL at 100k over or whatever it might be. many many other new cars have experienced this...higher demand early on and then it tapers off. so will the trend be with this car.

remember, many dealers will not get one, some will not see their car for months yet, so to them it is still a hot new car. over time, that too will dissipate and the cars will be at msrp levels.

I was just kidding about Ford but it's possible they may "reorganize" under Chapter 11 in the near term if they can't develop a car (and labor contract) that improves their (steeply) declining market share. But what do I know, I bought their stock at $30+ now you can barely give it away.

The difference between the GT and the others you mentioned comes down to time of manufacturing and the number of units made in that time. Ford was way behind and still are having some problems, first was the suspension and just recently my SVT dealer said the car may have a recall on the engine.
Most of the dealers are not selling their cars and if they do it's for the high markup,we have three SVT dealers local to us and all three have not sold their cars and don't plan to.

I thought the 2000 cobra R would come down, instead you can't find one now, people are holding on to them .

Well, for the moment that is true, because they can look out in their showroom and see their $135,000 investment that they think is now worth $250,000.

But wait until they realize the car is only worth $200,000. And then $190,000, and so on.

At current sales rates there is a 10 month supply of GTs in inventories, and in April Ford made 2.5 times as many GTs as the dealers sold.

Ford has also covered the floorplan interest on the cars through May, to help the dealers cover their costs while the recall was finished.

Some GTs are at TINY dealerships, just wait until they start paying interest on that car that costs as much as 10 pickup trucks.

The prices will drop fast, and very soon. Lots of good stuff at that http://www.FordGTprices.com site.

The Ford GT is a great car but dealers can be stupid. Lots of Chevy stores here in Denver would not sell an SSR for less than $10K over sticker even when every dealer in town had 5 or 6 on the ground. Now they can't give them away.

When most of the production of a car end up with dealers trying to make a big profit and not in the hands of drivers the car really does suffer. I have yet to see a Ford GT on the road.

What do you think about the lack of sound with the new GT40? I heard one on the track and it didn't make any noise. I find that not acceptable for $285,000 +/-… just my 2 cents.

This weeks issue of Autoweek has four Ford GT's for sale priced 225K-230K. Probably some early private speculators who overpaid and now realize they will be taking a big hit.

There are currently 47 Ford GT's on ebay. Only one is a no reserve car which will therefore sell and I think it is at 189K. Most of the other ones do not even have a bid.

Would you mind repeating the info you have on the number of unsold GT's in dealer hands now? Something like 400?

I think we'll see them selling for MSRP by the end of the year.

One was listed in Autotrader for $450,000 WAFJ.
