Hey Burnie- same here. I fell in love with a "CAV" assembled GT-40 on ebay. It did not go for the price he wanted. "Buy Now" was $74,000 got to $69,099.
I can send you pics. It is a perfect example (almost anyway) of what I would like. Looks like we can't build one for under say, $52,000 + drive train. Too much for me, DAMN ! Guess I'm like you, wanting to find one that a person can't finish. Guess I'll have to win the lottery !
Lone Star has a "Donor" kit. Uses a 4 banger & trans axle out of a Ford Focus.
NOT........for me. As far as my research goes, CAV, ERA, Superformance and Roaring Forty's are the top of the line. What have you found ?

I am in the same boat. There are very few used ones and I have yet to swallow the price of admission on a new one. It looks like RCR makes a pretty good car in a kit form. Since RF went out of business, I would be hesitant to buy one of those unfinished because of parts/customer service issues. I checked out the SPF, and their basic take on the thing is by the time you buy the car and then put the 9K transaxle and engine of your choice, you are gonna be over 100K. hhhmmmm. not sure I wouldn't want a different type of car at that price. ERAs are scarces as hen's teeth and a new one apparently is 3+ year wait. The one thing that I like is that RCR has a roll bar built into their mono chassis. The CAV car does not have one..rollbar... (tell me if I am wrong, I am only going by the pics on their sites). So right now, the RCR with roll bar and available in various kit stages are winning in my race right now. Anyone with a finished ERA for sale, CALL ME! (smiles). on www.gt40s.com there is pretty large australian group of guys that have various kits there that may be useful to you....but I am sure you have checked that out.

all being said, it looks like a look wait and keep searching for the right one

Funfer2

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the response. Yes I looked at most of the US kits whilst over there.

My neighbour recently picked up an unfinished project 1932 roadster from across town. The guy had lost interest and it sat there for a few years. He heard about it and made an offer.

It was accepted. I know there are few other part finished Cobras around also.

So thought I would ask the question. never know what is sitting around half finished as people take on a project they possibly cannot finish.

Thanks again

Bernie

Buzz,

Thank also for getting back.

I looking for an unfinished project. One that I can put the finish touches to.

Perhaps there is a kit out there that someone has or knows of that would be a buy for me.

Bernie

Buzz- I haven't seen "RCR", I'll have to look them up. What is their web-site ?
I agree, 80-100k is a lot of money and can buy a lot of car, so is a replica worth that much ? A Kirkham & Shelby 427 are that high. Hum.....? One thing I can say is, the higher priced GT company's do put out quite the high quality car. I would put them against the latter for high end cars. I would have to sell my Cobra first, before seriously addressing buying a unfinished GT. project.
Good luck to all of us. It's my B-day so, maybe someone will find my dream GT-40 ! LOL !
Kev

PS- I did find the RCR site, just checking them out now.

the RCR is very nicely done and great susp components. Ian actually deliveres cars on time.I was told that with a mild 302 and Audi/Renault transaxle you could build one for 60K or so, but we know how that goes. chuck

RCR makes a very nice looking kit, optional Gulf Flares for the rear too!
Check out the up-coming 917! (for Porsche-philes like myself)

If you are looking for some kits, or general info, come over to www.gt40s.com and kick around. Lots of stuff there. There are some RCR build threads there too if you wish to learn more about that specific car.

I've actually got a RCR Lola T70 on order that will be shipping next week. I'll post all, the good and the bad, when it arrives and start a build thread about it too. It appears that Fran Hall from RCR is doing what he says he'll do, and typically before the projected ship date. At least that is the way it has been thus far.

Chuck- Yes, the RCR GT-40 looks great, body, 6061 alum. billet suspension, chassis. The price looks to be quite a bit cheaper that the other's for basicly, the same quality. I would want a powerful, 302,351 with electronicly controled webbers. What other drive train would take the punishment ? (like you said, there goes the 60k) LOL !
Larry- Gulf flares ? I'll have to go back & see if they have a photo.
The 917 looks awesome. Would you just race it ?
Ron- I just joined the gt40s site. I'm drooling as we speak !
The T-70, is that the MK. llB ? You also, will you just race it or is it for the street ? Single seater in the center ? Looks.....BAD !
Gosh darn it, with I had some more dough !

Kevin
If I were ever to do one of RCR's 917's, I would make it street legal. The original car was very close to street legal because of class rules, so the replica is much the same way. I'd use a six though because finding a Porsche twelve cylinder would be harder than raising the Titanic with tweezers!

You might check out Bill's (2fast4u) build site. He is currently building an RCR GT40 and it has Gulf flares I believe. Nice guy too. http://www.mygt40.com/

I just got some pictures from Fran of my Lola taking shape and getting ready for ship out next week. Here is a link to the thread:

http://www.gt40s.com/forum/showthrea...023#post163023

About 8 weeks from order to deliver for this car.

Ron, I need some help. I tried to get onto your 40s site and registered, but I never got an email notifying me that I can get on. I can log on, but when I tried to post, it tells me I have been inactivated or have yet to be activated. can you help me out there?

thanks

Email me your email address and user name. Likely your ISP or a spam filter killed the registration email.

Sorry Bernie, didn't mean to offend you or any other members here. I read ClubCobra for Cobra info and have been a member here since 2000, although I don't have a Cobra and I don't post all that much. I know you visit GT40s.com on occassion, but there are a lot of folks that don't know there are dedicated GT40 sites on the web. And naturally because I and others work pretty hard to keep www.gt40s.com updated and current, we wish people to know about it.

Oh, and I did see a partial kit on the site but it is in the US. Might not make sense for you with distance and the fact you can source it locally for probably less than the asking price.

Ron
