Default What if...GT replica selling price

GMatthew ERA GT for sale post moved to
ERA GT for sale

The premise of this thread changed to:

"..What if.... there was a GT40 replica for sale at a high price, close to a Ford GT price and higher than the other GT replicas....."

That's one very nice GT !
A few months ago I got a wild hair about the GT-40. Started researching thinking they may be apx. the same cost to build as my cobra but, received a cruel wakening. So, guess that second dream car is a stale mate. But, I did want to say the the ERA is at the top of the class and yours is a great, example. Anyone would be very lucky, to have this one in their garage. Again...... very nice.

Gary,

Your web page "leaves something to be desired". Many of your images are missing and things are scattered all over the page.

E-mail me your pictures (preferably in jpeg format, packed in a single zip file) and I'll try to arrange your text and graphics into something more readable.

I have to agree with Ray. This is a beautiful GT, though the asking price may be too high at the moment. I have seen some Ford GT's sell in Southern California near that price range. You never know though, when some people like what they see, they'll pay the price if they really want it.

Comparison to a current GT is an apples to orange.

Like Cobra replicas the Superformance, CAV, ERA GT40's all have to be evaluated on what you are getting. This example as written seems to be an extremely well done and accurate to an original.

The price is consistent with what ERA's have been advertised at in the past and they don't typically stay on the market that long. There may be more on the market to choose from now with others getting into the market. Quality and accuracy need to be considered and this car looks great.

Question: Why would someone think about buying an ERA GT40 for $130K versus a new GT40 for $150K, other than the $20K? Is there something wrong with the new GT's?

I'm with Pat. If the guy does not snap mentally from the impending loss of his GT40, the critical review of his advertisement and his percieved pricing anomalies might cause him to pull the trigger at any time now. Notice that there was only one post....
It may be too late.

Cut the crap - it's a well reasoned question - I have an ERA Cobra - I love my ERA, I'm just trying to understand the logic of this purchase versus a REAL FORD GT40. I'm wondering if the real one just doesn't measure up, but I really have no idea.

I wasn't actually referring to your post....I was referring to those who made peanut gallery comments about how much the asking price is.

However, upon reading your lame post, I guess I could include you in that group.

Why not send him a PM as was suggested...?

The new Ford GT and the replica GT40 are not that similar. The new Ford GT is a great car, and so is the ERA, but neither is a real GT40. A real GT40 is really a LOLA !

I like that line of thinking...........

And you got that right, the new Ford GT has little in common with the GT40 race cars, nor the GT40 replicas....cool in its own right, but quite a bit different....

But the ERA is a hell of alot closer to the original than the new GT.

Actually, I think the ERA GT40 is closer to an original GT40 than what the ERA cobra is to an original cobra.
