Default Question forfrom SPF 1965 Cobra owner

Can you tell me the best way to open the glove box in our Superformance 1965 Cobra? We have a key but it turns in the lock and we are not sure how hard to pull on it. Please advise

Raven,

When I turn the key in my glove compartment, at a certain point the bar attached to the key becomes "free". Then the box opens when you pull on the key using almost no pressure.

If you are pulling on the key and it does not open easily, it is not in the right position. Turn it to a different position and try again.

After you get it open the first time, the simple system becomes obvious.

Jack

Well, on mine the key turns in the lock and moves the tang inside to unlatch the door, which then falls open. No pulling necessary. Sounds like you may have broken lock, but frankly I don't quite see how. The key is nothing more than a handle which rotates the tang into and out of a catch- very simple. If it turns, then the tang is turning and should unlatch, or else the tang is broken off, and the door shouldn't be locked at all. Maybe your door is just stuck closed? What number is your car? Mine is a relatively recent SPF (SPO 2038); maybe the glove box latch is different on older models. BTW, including this car number is always a good idea as changes were made from older to newer cars. Good luck!
