[2020 GT500 CFTP]

Hello all. I have acquired a a hi-tech (Tim G) roller cobra. Here’s a few pics. I have drive shafts, seat frames with the rubbers, other misc pieces. No brakes, some of the aluminum panels, 428 CJ (C scratch block)with a factory Ford six pack set up, aluminum heads.

I’m soaking in all the info and advice from everyone’s posts. I’m really enjoying studying the builds from cobrakiwi’ s pics.

I got the car from McCabe racing and Tim has looked and verified it's one of his. I'm located in Chino Valley, AZ.

My advice is stay as accurate to original as you can. Being a Hi Tech, that how most people will want to see it.

To keep with the originality as much as possible, where is a good place to find a set of Girling calipers, rotors and pads for the rear?

If you intend to drive it hard some of the originality might be better sacrificed for more modern equipment, like brakes.

Here is another source of parts. Are you looking for the iron calipers or race calipers? They also have wheels and iron rear end chunks. I got a set of front race calipers about 4 months ago from them. I had them in my possession in a week to 10 days.

I wanted to add that there is a place in Georgia. I think its called race parts? They get parts from England about every other day. You can go thru them if you are worried about paying in another country currency or any of the stuff that goes along with importing things. Let me know and I will pass my contact info along.

Congratulations on your Hi-Tech - they are awesome cars. Craig (Cobrakiwi) built mine and I have a pretty extensive thread on the build. I really tried to go for an original style build, but I had owned a Contemporary Cobra before the Hi-Tech so I learned being able to enjoy driving the car will trump originality in some cases. For that reason, I have a TKO600, Avon tires, and Wilwood brakes. Craig did an awesome job machining off the Wilwood logo, stripping off the black coating, and clear powder coating the bare aluminum. Now I have high-performance brakes that at first glance, look pretty similar to the Girlings. Good luck with the build!!

The Avons and the TKO (actually TKX now) represent a huge improvement over Billboards and a top loader, and of course don't forget the braking upgrade. The difference between Billboards and Avons is sort of like the difference between a stone wheel off Fred Flintstone's, Flintstone Flyer and a good ZR rated tire today. Modern calipers on ventilated discs are stunningly more capable than the original Girlings, which were very good in their day.

Remember a pure race, Weber equipped, 289 back then was less than 400 HP. A very mild, small block, crate engine today with a single 4BBL can easily eclipse 500 HP in the blink of an eye.. That was then and most significantly, this is now. Build the car to be representatively accurate, safe by build comparison to the originals and fun to drive today at the limits of your particular driving skills inventory.

I have really enjoyed your build thread mongoose930!!! I’ve learned a great deal and I know I have a lot more to learn. Cobrakiwi looks he does amazing work! I think you’re right about drive ability vs originality. Your brakes turned out great. I would like to try and duplicate them if you don’t mind. Maybe I could trouble you for which caliper/rotor set up you used. If I can pick yours and Cobrakiwi’s brain that would be awesome.

I’m planning on a TKX-600. I don’t have an English wheel but I may get access to one but those rear inner wheel wells could be a challenge for my inexperienced self!
