really screwed my carbs up!
had a bog in my 2x4's (450's) and had tryed bigger squiters #37... not a big difference and screws in metering blocks needed tobe 2.5 turns out to run its best.
It was suggested to open the seconaries abit to help the problem...I also took off the fuel bowl to check what jets were in there #60's...now the motor won't idle,I have backed the idle adjustment screws out so there is no contact and have turned the metering block screws so there now out 1/2 turn...a little progress but not great or as good as it was before I started...next the seconary fuel bowl now dosen't have any fuel in it..I unscrewed the lower bowl screws and nothing came out. Took off the bowl and the tube that feeds that bowl was persurized with fuel and have trted to reset the float with no success......any suggestions, could use some help!

Check your needle and seat on the secondary ... sounds like it might be stuck or the float is hanging up . You didn`t say , but if you have power valves , they sometimes leak and make it almost impossible to get the engine to idle as it runs really rich . What do your plugs say ?
On the primary side , if you turn the carb over , you should have about .020" of the transition slot showing . The mixture screws should be in the 1 3/4 turn out range as a starting point .
I cured the bog in mine by raising the float level slightly ( brings the main circuit in sooner ) and backing the mixture adjust screws out about 1/4 to 1/2 turn from best idle .
The secondaries should just be cracked slightly so you have about .020" of the transition slot showing .
These are starting points and you will have to play from there .

runs and stalls now
The needle seat must be bad , went over the carbs again and with a feeler gauge set all the buterflies with a .006 feeler gauge and then reset the float on the one bowl. restarted the motor, vacum is up to 15 inchs , motor is very rough and gas was comming out the center tube on the carb with the bad needle seat...lower'd float till that stoped and opened sight plug on fuel bowl..
no fuel and the motor now runs for a couple min's and stalls. step on the gas petal it restarts....I NEED HELP or a new set of carbs!

Those are pretty easy and inexpensive to replace ... do you have a spare carb around you could rob ? Just for the heck of it , check to be sure the float doesn`t have a leak or is sticking . You also might have some trash in the float needle valve holding it open all the time . I`ve also seen the float level adjustment run so far in , it causes the float to hang open because the angle on the needle valve plunger is so bad it sticks open .

Why don`t you take that float bowl off and set the float visually ? Turn it upside down and set it so it approx. level . You can also check to see if the needle valve is sticking then .... or better yet , get a rebuild kit and use the Holley gauge that comes with it and set it visually first . You can also replace the needle valve then .
Good luck ,
Bob
