Default Fuel shot out the float bowl vent tube.....

After I reinstalled the primary and secondary fuel bowls on my 4150 HP-based carb, I turned the fuel pump on to check for leaks. No leaks from either, other than gas shooting out the secondary bowl vent tube. So I took the bowl off, checked the float for operation, made sure the float was clearing the jet extensions, reinstalled, and the same thing happened. So I took it off for a third time. Same thing happened. With no other options I could think of, I opened and closed the throttle all the way and the gas stopped shooting through the tube.

Is this a unique experience or has it happened to others? I'm--clearly--no Carb expert, so I don't understand how the throttle movement got the float needle to seat (apparently) and shut off the flow of fuel.

If you are using an electric fuel pump made for fuel injection, the presure will be too high and force open the float. You need a pump made for a carb that has a max of 7 psi. An FI pump is about 15 psi.

The culprit was most likely junk in the secondary needle and seat. This is of course assuming that the rest of the fuel system had remained the same.

I agree. If this setup worked before, (which I did not realize), then it is probably junk in the line broken loose from fooling with it.
