How difficult to build?
Hi All
I have no experience working on cars.
Can a novice build this kit?
Where is the best place to get an engine and transmission?
What does it usually cost to have the car painted?
Are there any big ticket items that I need to purchase?
Thank you for all assistance.
Jack

Hey Jack
The Hurricane kit can be built with average tools that most of us have. I've found that it's not hard but I have messed around with sports cars most of my life. I would say some experience would be a big help but there's lots of forum support on our Hurricane site and from the company itself. So it could be done. Also, Hurricane can assemble it to some degree at the shop. You'd have to talk to Mike or Rich about that.
There are a number of engine builders and lots of opnion on who's the best. I would pick someone close to where you live so you can be a part of it's build offten. Sky's the limit with what you can spend, so your budget plays a big role in what engine you end up with. Hurricane can support both big and small block Ford as well as (gasp) other manufacturers.
Most of us are using TKO 600's for transmission.
Paint... again, the sky's the limit. I've seen paint jobs for $2000 up to as high as around $12000. It depends on how much work you do on the paint.
As for "big ticket items" for the car, engine, trans, wheels and tires are the big things you'll be spending your money on. The kit is very complete.
Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Jack, I just finished mine. The good new is, I didn't have to weld anything. I would order it with he suspension already installed. They have a good frame and body shape. A finished Hurricane Cobra is some work, with alot of reward. Good luck. You can click on the little camera by my name to see some finished pictures of mine. ken KM 1007

Ken,
The car looks great! I remember last summer when I came out to look at when all that was installed was the engine, tires, and the tub with it spray painted black. You did a great job finishing it out. I think the solid red clean look reminds me of the original cars. How is the 390? How did you register it?
Cheers
Michael

Your car looks great Ken! (you would have to pick red wouldn't you!)
Jack,
The instructions are very easy to read with lots of pictures. I almost haven't used it to be honest. I think you can order it from Hurricane w/o ordering the car if you'd like to read it. Not sure about cost, call them to be sure.

Larry and Michael: Thanks for the nice words. I am registering it under SB100. I got SB100 / #077. It will be at WSCB in Sparks, NV May 19,20,21 if you get up there. Michael, Nice hearing from you. Did you get one yet? If so send a picture. Larry, I went with Corvette Tourch Red instead of Testarosa Red.
As to the instructions. Easy to read and understand. I only had to look at them a couple times. It is a straight common sence build car.

Whew!
I'm also thinking about Rosso Scuderia, the current F1 color but I have yet to see it in real life. If I end up not liking it, it's be Rosso Corsa.

Yes, you can order the build manual - costs $50 if I recall. I have mine on the coffee table......
