Dead MSD 6AL
Guys ... just curious , my MSD got zapped this weekend .... my fault and the problem has been corrected and I`m not blaming MSD on this one . However , I need to get the box repaired and appear to have several choices . I can send it back to MSD , but that will take about 3 weeks , per them . I found a company in Huntersville , NC ... Techwest Racing Services , who says they repair and modify MSD units . Anyone know anything about them ?? I plan to check with some of my buddies who are involved in NASCAR , but thought I would also ask the question here .
Thanks ... Bob

Buy a spare and keep it in the car
Bobcat I have 2 spares I keep for racing. If the unit is new looking, MSD may fix it for free. I got them to fix mine when I did some welding on the car and the shock of welding killed the MSD because the battery was hooked up. I would tell you to have spare parts on this system in the trunk with the basic tools to swap it on the road. Cap, rotor, 6AL box, have this per wired for swapping in and out easy. spare pin for gear on bottom, and module inside of cap. I have bailed out a guy already on route 80 in the middle of PA. Rick L. Ps I have no luck and it is better to have and not use than to need, not have, and get a $200.00 tow plus mileage to a toilet of a garage in the sticks.

I had the same thing. It was faster and not much more expensive to buy a new one. Cutting in the wires to do it was faster than making up connectors. If you send the broken one for repair you'll have a spare...
I fried mine by washing the engine compartment and failing to disconnect the battery.

This MSD business has me a bit nervous, even though this situation was different.
Tony,
How's the sale going? I test drove your car back in mid '08, so I feel a bit connected.

Like Curly said "I'm trying think but nuttin's happening".
I'd be curious to know more about your thoughts. Please pm me your email address. I've got the engine running like a BOH now... Someday I'll find time to get the dyno data uploaded.

Rick and others , thanks for the input . I went with a company in NC who does a lot of work for the NASCAR teams on their MSD units . They were recommended by a friend of mine who is the manager for a race team with 6 cars and has used them in the past . Absolutely no reflection on MSD , who has a great reputation on their service ... I just couldn`t wait the three weeks including shipping both ways .
