Default Alternative MSD Cap

Have had 2 MSD caps fail with center electrode gone. Yes I bent rotor up to contact electrode. I will check rotor phasing. Also read somewhere that an alternative cap is Borg Warner C158, but that seems to have female terminals. I have the small MSD cap #8431. Is there an alternative with male terminals?

Sounds like more than bad luck. You contact MSD?

I've had great luck with this one: Summit Racing SUM-G5234 - Summit Racing® Distributor Cap and Rotor Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Thanks Chris. Maybe the rotor-cap electrode alignment will be better too. On my MSD ones the rotor is totally beneath the lower edge of the cap electrodes. Really getting fed up with MSD quality.

Chris,
Is that Summit Cap for an FE? It looks taller than my 351W one.

Mine had the Chevy-style cap, so after 2 MSD cap failures, I bought a cap for a 57 Chevy 6 years ago, put it on and never had any more trouble.

I run the black 158 for GM 454 on my MSD 8594 FE distributor. Cheaper and no problems, but the electrodes to tend to disappear after about 2000 miles.

It's the one I run on my FE with an MSD Pro Billet distributor.
