Smile

this is normal for MSD

I run a stock Ford cap with no problems.

but my buddies with MSD have that problem. Called MSD and they know about it but have done nothing to correct the problem.
I think it's the material they use in the cap combined with the high voltage.

IMHO

The part number you have shows a GM HEI cap and rotor. Try a Petronix cap and rotor. I just put them on my car and they seem to be better quality than the MSD versions.

Coastal:
Your problem is very basic. You've got the engine in backwards. Turn it around and that should cure the problem. (Sometimes I just can't help myself) );-)

On the MSD gear, the rotor tang often doesn't make full contact with the carbon button on the inside of the cap. Put in a new rotor and cap, and bend the tang on the rotor up to ensure it makes good contact. This is a known issue and could very well solve your problem.
They will replace under warranty for this, btw.

And get an extra rotor and cap to keep in the trunk!
