Default Oil Recommendation

Keith -
I have an aluminum 482 that you built several years ago. On one of the other threads it looks like you recommend Joe Gibbs oil now. Can you let me know the specifics on the type of oil that you recommend I run in my engine now?

Thanks,
Paul

Default Oil for your enigne

Like I have mentioned before with the changes in the oils over the last few years we have found the Jo Gibbs oil to be the best for the engines that we build. We run either the 10W40 or the 15W50 Hot Rod oils. It depends on your location and how hot it gets where you are located. Most of the time the 15W50 will work fine and it is probably better on an all aluminum engine because they have a little more clearance when they get hot.
We have found this oil to work very well with the extra ZDDP that it has plus there is a special additive that helps the oil stay on the parts. This is great for cold start up and for engines that may set a while between driving. Feel free to give Tony or Lance a call and they can ship you some out.

Thanks, Keith

Thanks Keith - On the Joe Gibbs site, the Hot Rod 15W50 comes in conventional or synthetic. Do you recommend one over the other?

I use both and like to get about 2000 miles on the engine before I use the synthetic. I have had good luck with both of them. A lot of the guys run the standard stuff because it is a little less money and they change their oil once year and do not get that many miles on it.

Thanks, Keith
