Default Keith Blue Thunder Fe Heads

Hi Keith, What is your opinion of the Blue Thunder FE heads? I like the shallow combustion chamber compared to the usual FE bathtub, but how do you like the heads overall. I'm building a 4.250 stroked S.O. and I'd like to get my Heads, cam and maybe pistons from you. I'm trying to decide between your ported Edelbrocks or the Blue Thunder heads, what do you suggest?

I have used the Blue Thunder heads and have some in stock. I have some nice CNC programs on there heads. The problem with the small chamber as you describe it is that it kills the flow down low where most street engines need it. I had to open the chamber up to about 80cc to get the valves un shrouded. The head is plenty thick so you can mill it down if you want but this can also be done with the Edekbrock heads. The Blue Thunder also takes a special rocker stand that they sell for the regular style FE rockers so some of your after market rockers do not work real easy. There is a T&D rocker assembley available for it. The heads cost almost twice as much as the Edelbrocks when buying the heads bare and they need to be worked on as well. I just have not seen enough advantages if any in the MR style head to justify the cost difference. Just let us know how we can help. Thanks, Keith

I didn't understand what you meant by 'small chamber...kills flow down low'. Could you elaborate on this a little more?

Do you port the BT heads yourself or use ET or similar shop? Was the unshrouding part of the CNC?

And finally, how much are they?

Thanks,

David
