Default durability of the 408?

How durable is the KC 408? I know with that displacement you are getting to the edge of the stroke. Any issues and how many miles have some of you gotten on them? Those that have it, do you like the motor? Too much power or just right?

This is the one of the best packages that you can buy. The rod angle is better than a 454 BBC and they put over 100,000 miles on them all of the time. There is no problem with putting up to 100,000 on one of these engine if it is built for that. Most of our customers want a little more power and are happy with 50,000 miles since most will not put that much on it anyway. Just let us know how we can help. Keith, what are the components that usually get replaced after the wear point is reached. Is it a simple bottom end redo? Or is it---new everything that moves?
And of course what would it typically cost to get it ready for the next 50 thousand miles?

If anything wear out in that time period it would be the rings. The high performance engines wear the rings out a little quicker than a standard engine. We could use a different ring pack along with a smaller camshaft and build the engine to a longer mile piece. The block, crank, rods, pistons and all of that hold up fine. Thanks, Keith
