I kind of took a different approach with my motor that Keith and his assistant Tony built. I was watching dollars, looking for mid-60s period appearance and I'm kind of nostalgic about the old motors and original parts. He had a nice 428 service block and put a 4.25 Scat crank in it for 459 cu in. He had a set of 390 cu in/401 HP hi-po heads from 1961 that he had ported and polished and fitted with early 427 LR valve sizes. They are basically equal to early 427 LR heads and 428 Cobra Jet heads. I thought they were pretty cool and I appreciated that he thought enough of them to put all this work into them so I went with them. I sourced a 427 LR dual quad intake and had it re-skinned and furnished to them along with a 427 dual point distribtor. He put it all together with chevy rods and a custom grind hydraulic cam of moderate intensity. It's a bit of a Frankenstein motor but I'm very happy with it. It made 470 HP and about 535 ft lbs of torque which should pretty closely approximate the performance of an original 1965 427 Cobra engine as delivered by Ford. Looks good, runs good and so far doesn't leak.
