Road Trip

Look forward to the visit of our brothers and sisters from Ky and all points North, South, East and West of us.
I understand some are traveling up from Florida, and we have invited the Chattanooga Cobra Club.

Anyone who would like to join in can contact Juan or myself.

Friday afternoon we will spend in Florence, eat supper at the Hickory Barn in Athens.

Saturday we will drive to Huntsville and meet up with our Huntsville group at the Club House. From there we can go eat or visit local attractions, i.e. Space And Rocket Museum, Military Museum, Bridge Street Mall, etc.
We will use the Club House as a base. Groups can drive to a place of their interest and meet up later at the Club House. Or just hang out and visit.

Travel back to Florence Saturday evening.

The visit to Alabama

To say the trip to Florence, Alabama was nice would be an understatement. We all were overwhelmed by the warmth and magnitude of the hospitality of our brothers and sisters from the North Alabama Cobra Club and the Chattanooga Cobra Club.

The Kentucky Cobra Club is humbled by the collective spirit of good fellowship, friendship and sense of humanity of everyone this last weekend. We only hope that we can shower all of you that we're there with the same enthusiasm and warmth shown to us when you come to visit Derby City, Louisville, KY.

On behalf of all the members of the Kentucky Cobra Club, thank you for a most memorable weekend.

All the members of the North Alabama Cobra Club and the Chattanooga Cobra Club had a great time as well. It's amazing how much we all have in common even beyond our interest in Cobras. We are looking forward to seeing you again at the London Cobra Show and maybe at another of your events in the summer.

Great pics Dwight and Juan!

The pictures of the Hickory Barn BBQ were taken Friday evening of our Cobras and us in front of the restaurant. Monday a tornado destroyed that area killing two people about an 1/8 mile from the Hickory Barn. The Hickory Barn was damaged. I'll try to get pictures in the next couple of days.
As far as I know all our members are ok.

One never knows

Dwight

Bill and his wife, the owners of the Hickory Barn, are reported to be cooking food for the rescue workers that are cleaning up the area. I guess his pits survived.

I know this post is a couple of months late but

The Hickory Barn building was damaged beyond repair. Bill did not have insurance and FEMA would not help him. After a couple of months a couple of people in the area set him up with a loan that allow him to rent / buy (I'm not sure) a building a couple of miles east of his old location.

The week after the tornado I drove to the area hit and found Bill and Mary at the school cooking for everyone at no charge.
As I talked with him I noticed three large smoker, smokin' away and ask if they were his smokers. He responded yes and told me that on Sunday he told Mary that they were going to the area where the storm hit to cook for the people. He moved his smokers to his house on Sunday. Monday the tornado tore thru the area where his business was located, destroying everything outside his building.
The smokers where safe at his house five miles away.
Tuesday he set up to cook for everyone at the school 3/4 of a mile from his building. He would post on Face book what they were going to cook the next day and people would bring him the food. After five hours he had to tell everyone Not to bring more food, they had to much!
He cooked for thousands of people for a couple of weeks.
Now they are getting the new building ( an old catfish restaurant) ready to cook BBQ in.
I'll be driving over to Huntsville one day this week and I'm going to check on Bill and Mary.
Great people! And great food!

I never did ask what happen to the barrels (two maybe three) of Jack Daniel's whiskey he won at BBQ cook offs in Tenn.
