Best way to tell is by reading the temp across the tire tread after a mile or so. If the center is hot compaired to the edges, lower the pressure. You can also eyeball the tread to see when it goes flat:
Over inflate to say 30psi then lower the pressure in steps till you see the tread edges make contact with the ground, then drop another pound or so. This will get you in the ballpark, temp readings after this.
Also make sure you do this with a half a tank of gas. 42gal of gas is about 285lbs. so your fuel level will have a greater effect on tread wear. (Or what ever level you think the tank sits at on average.)
