Tire pressure for Avon´s

Can anyone help me out with best tire pressure setting for Avon´s on a 427 with 42 gallon tank and FE Alu block?

I undestood that they are quite sensitive towards pressure and resulting perfomance consequences.

245/60/15 front
295/50/15 rear

Would be thankful for your related input!

I would start around 25lbs front & rear, and adjust up/down from there by 1 or 2 lbs...

Carsten, I'am running 19lbs. cold front & rear. even wear all around. I only have a 17 gal tank

Your answers reconfirm what I was guessing/fearing: Due to individual driver´s preferences, which are a "vital" aspect, as well as different car configurations there is no "general rule" in regard to what is perfect = Wellcome to the real world..........So I guess I will need to fiddle around a bit -

Anyone else having suggestions?

Best way to tell is by reading the temp across the tire tread after a mile or so. If the center is hot compaired to the edges, lower the pressure. You can also eyeball the tread to see when it goes flat:

Over inflate to say 30psi then lower the pressure in steps till you see the tread edges make contact with the ground, then drop another pound or so. This will get you in the ballpark, temp readings after this.

Also make sure you do this with a half a tank of gas. 42gal of gas is about 285lbs. so your fuel level will have a greater effect on tread wear. (Or what ever level you think the tank sits at on average.)

Take a tire marking "grease" pencil

draw a line across each tire treat area that contacts the road

drive a few blocks

see the lines on each tire.

adjust pressures until the line fades evenly acorss the tread area for each tire

or follow what the manufacturer says for radial tires
