Dcmgt ... you asked about circumference of the 245/295 ... 15" Avons . I just measured the front ( 245`s ) at 81 1/2" for the LF and 81 5/8" for the RF at 26 psi . When I get the time , I`ll measure the rears .

Well in Hawaii, rain or shine, no problem, you would dry off shortly anyway so no big deal. Here in Oregon I got rained on and wet sometime ago and didn't dry out for three days AND it was cold!

...I just got my heater from ERA, and the softop, and the side curtains, I've totally whimped out man.

Thanks Bob. Your fronts end up being nominally 25.96" tall, vs the 26.7 or whatever you see listed in the literature/websites. Goes to show you how you can't go by the published numbers. It will be interesting to see what your rears come in at.

Jamo, just got the AVON's on my Kirkham, same size as your's. Are you still running 28psi or have you lowered the pressures? I called Krauss and they said 26 front and 25 rear.

Per our PMs...yup, down to 26 all around, but I actually drop the fronts a bit when I'm playing around in the mountains.

So...have you driven on them yet?

Yes! Noticed two differences right off the bat. Turn in is very quick and they throw rocks. Since my car is painted, I added some heli tape behind the rears. I haven't had a chance to head up into the foothills yet.

My Avons are now over a year old with 800 miles on them. They continue to impress me with their grip and drivability. I run them at 25 psi F & R. They are equally impressive in hard cornering and in putting the power down. Other high performance rubber I own from Pirelli, Yokohama, and Michelin seem to be good at one or another, but not both. Their sidewalls still look new and best of all they leave fine rubber dust on the back of the car that is fun to clean off. I unhesitatingly recommend regardless of price.

Where thinner / narrower tires will pay off is in transitional handling, from one corner to the next , and dont forget overall gas mileage, wear and tear on the car ( joints /etc )

I have seen a direct link between oversize tires linked to suspension /chassis wear and reduced gas mileage.

there is probably a percent that someone could chime in with. -- I do remember a former car where I beefed up the tire size by about 10% in width ( all 4 ) and dropped about 10% in MPG.

Just a thought!

Default Avons

I have tried Goodyear billboards on my Hurricane. They constantly leaked air, flatspotted and wandered all over the place! I now run the Avons (245/60vr15 and 295/50vr15).The Avons are infinitely better!
