Do you have a Street / Slabside KMP - how did you set it up >?

So nobody has a KMP 289>? --

I sort of have a slab side car. What is it you want to know. my car has slab side front fenders with flared rear fenders. It has a lemans hard top but I've yet to cut the trunk. It has a rear facing rollbar as opposed to a front facing one. I have an intergral hood scoop. It also has a stroked 302.

I have a Sagebrush slab comp car in the works, I would go comp style as they are more raw and therefore FUN....

Did you choose the narrowed 427 chassis with coil spring suspension? Photos of your slabside, show ing wheels and the exhaust option would help me refine a decision I've been mulling over for a couple of years...while the market tanked.

I looked in the World Registry (available for purchase at www.saac.com ) and Bert's 289 is an FIA. It was displayed as CSX7006 at the Monterey Historics 8/99.

According to the registry there were only 15 289 Street KMP's with leaf spring chassis. All other 289 production were some form of the FIA body. They're all over the place: FL, Germany, England, CA, MI, UT, etc.

KMP493 is a hybrid/street according to the Registry. Stainless steel coil spring chassis with 289 street body.

--I have been officially bitten by the aluminum car bug.

I have to finish my CSX as a demo and drive it around a but, but in the long term planning I think there is an 'AL' bird in the future.

The Kirkhams are already helping me out, ( thank you David ) as I am sending them my SC style dash, and they are going to make me a roadster dash for my CSX so we can have the car be a "Correct" CSX 4000 roadster. I just need to find a 60" long shipping box!

-- I am also updating my CSX with a kirkham style (KW) harness as the HST produced harness scares the SHH@* out of me.

As for what version of 289' -- part of me says leaf- part of me says coil.

That's correct. Mine is a stainless 427 style frame. In large measure I got a frame and body combination that likely just wasn't "popular" (a slab side street car with a 427 frame). Fine with me. I had the rear end flared, added the roll bar, the side pipes (rear facing roll bar and non-underbody pipes). Also added an integral hood scoop and recently a pimp looking LeMans hardtop. I don't have a good picture of the car with all the stuff done to it and am too busy enjoying it to stop and snap a photo of it. PM me and perhaps I can swing a couple photos your way.

Here is a picture of acindrich's car. It is very nice.

If you plan on driving the car a lot, the 427 hybrid frame is the way to go. Easier to tune and adjust the suspension as needed. I know that there are some die hard leaf spring guys that say that they can set up their cars just as well, but it takes a hell of a lot of work to do it. The 427 suspension is easily adjustable for ride height and alignment, something that requires spring changes in a leaf spring car.

If you are trying to do a dead nuts accurate replica, go for the leaf spring suspension.

Steve would paint his Kirkham. He no likely the "bare naked lady." His SPF is green, but otherwise, I would guess green.

Tim, have you figured out what color you're painting your FIA wheels? Once you figure whether white, black or grey, you will have to start a thread or three on what shade.

what are the wheel sizes that can fit under the rears -- I was thinking of 15x6 on all 4 tires.

Steve, from the Kirkham website:

"We use a round tube frame that is geometrically identical to the original cars. The 427 frame’s main tubes are 4” in diameter. The original 289 frame main tubes were 3” in diameter. All cars come standard with the four inch main tube frame. The three inch main tube frame is available as an option on the 289 cars. Some customers prefer the stronger four inch tubes even on the 289 cars. The 427 frame uses the coil over suspension; the three inch frame uses the older technology of the leaf spring suspension. We put your version together however you prefer. Both frames are the same as the originals."

I know what I would do (no on 3" frame and leaf springs), but everyone is different.

428street's ERA (street 427) is painted green, so you won't be the only green car out there. For me, I might consider black with red interior or maybe red with black interior. Then, there's blue with black or red interior...

Now you know why I went with bare aluminum. I couldn't (can't) make a color choice and I'm not about to start multiple threads asking folks for what shade of blue they prefer. (just kidding Tim).

On a slab side, you need to go with the skinny wheels all around. The 15x6 is what you will need.

On the FIA, you can go a little wider in the rear.
