The engine is almost ready, finally. It wasnt the engine shop that took so long, but the parts suppliers. They are dealing with a cam dowel pin situation currently. Apparently the dowel that was included in the cam box was too small. So either they bored the hole too large in the cam or simply included the wrong dowel pin.
Anyway, here is the update.

Not sure exactly what area you are talking about, but i think you are looking at where the main cap attaches. This is a brand new shelby block. I can assure you that it doesnt have any cracks.

I believe he's referring to the bottom pic that shows the underside of cylinder 5. It does look kinda weird? Not to freak you out or anything but stranger crap has happened out there!! There's too many stories about "new" block problems. It does look like a crack from the cylinder liner down. What interesting is that the oil ran down and followed this "line". Could be a casting mark, could be nothing, or could be a crack. Sometimes pictures will ring out the negative sides of things with flashes in all. I would spray down with brake clean and probe that sucker. Maybe a few of our engine experts here will chime in. Other wise looks great! Hang in there!! Regards, Matt

I think you all are just looking a little too much into a glob of oil that ran down the block. Thanks for the opinions though.

I superenhanced it on my macbook and it is just oil.

I couldn't even tell you how to do that! Like I said brake clean and a small awl would make me feel better. But hey, that's just me. It's probably nothing but your brothern here is just trying to take care of you. Glad to see your making progress again, it's getting there!

Yes I did not intend to instigate anything merely saw some type of imperfection leading from the center of the cylinder out.

Build is looking great.

No worries! Thanks for taking notice. I just didnt want this thread to be taken over by posts about a possible flaw in my block. Then, the next thing you know my car will be known as the Ironman Kirkham with the cracked 527fe, and if i ever go to sell it...

Sneak Peak Pictures of shortblock to follow in just a bit.

Special thanks to Keith Craft Racing for installing larger valves, porting, and setting up the heads to the correct specs for their camshaft. Overall i ended up with a 3,000 set of heads thanks to that wonderful company in Kentucky that Starts with a P and ends with an S. I should have gone with Keith Craft from the get go and i am still not real sure why i chose the KY based Company.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the heads

Exhaust porting job by KC

Intake Port

It looks like i am going to need to do a little port matching on the intake. Look at the size difference. :O

That's why that intake has all that material to work with!

Great build! I just read it from the beginning. Thanks for documenting, posting, and keeping me motivated!

This may be a dumb question but does the oil drain back through the machined holes between the lifter bores????......if so those blocks must hold a lot of oil in the top end and would leave a lot of dirty oil behind on an oil change......other than that it looks pretty darn nice....

Did you note how there are not any drain holes in the back like most blocks and how each area of the velley is separated by reinforcement ribbing? It helps with lubricating the cam in the correct way i am sure and is a better design than just having the oil drain down the back of the block. Not to mention, how else would the oil return to the pan if it were not designed that way?
