After looking at the pictures, there are some definite problems with this marriage of body and chassis. The most obvious is the
oil cooler mount from the FF5 chassis sticking up above the snout opening several inches.
With a little work from somebody who understands fabrication, I believe this could have been a really nice car. The FF5 chasssis is actually pretty well designed and very stiff and would make a good mate to the Kirkham chassis with some modification. The outriggers on the FF5 chassis are far too wide for the Kirkham body. They would have to be shortened and modified to fit the Kirkham body in much the same way that the CSX/Kirkham chassis are built.
The
oil cooler mount could easily be modified to be like the CSX/Kirham opening with a very small amount of work and a couple pieces of aluminum.
The FF5 Aluminum footboxes just kill the look, but could easily be replaced with fiberglass units or modified to fit under the body like an original style footbox with a bit of aluminum fabrication and a few bits and pieces.
It also looks like whoever did the project tried to use the FF5 wheels with the mustang backspace. With the proper backspace, the wheels/tires would come out to the edge of the fenders like they should and look much more original.
All in all, nothing a good scratch builder or accomplished fabricator like Mickmate couldn't fix up to look like an OEM Kirkham with a little work, IMHO.
