Hey Guys, Owning a Kirkham is a wonderful thing. Topping it off is knowing that David has put himself in a controversial environment to bring attention to America’s problems. The Kirkham brand now means more to me then just my polished roadster. David, I appreciate the tireless work you do inside and outside the shop. Peace, Darren

Now owning a Kirkham means you gotta buy into the "Tea Party"? Let's just say this thread belongs someplace else.

I think we're all getting a bit sensitive, here.
To know David Kirkham and/or do business with him, and to recognize his personal plight, will give one insight to the INTEGRITY this man has. That's all. No need to get excited.

I think you are pulling out the "jump to conclusions mat" a little prematurely! I also think you are being a little too sensitive. David did not make a statement that was in direct correlation to the TEA party movement. It's just a link to an article by the New York Times.
Perhaps we should have some sort of Federal legislation that states you cannot post anything even remotely related to politics on car forums. SMILEY FACE!!!

I agree 1,000%. The GT40s Forum is full of politics. I would take it over there.

Keep the political discussion
WTH, more Federal legislation, that's what we need.
Are you going to wait until they write a Federal legislation that limits our ability to drive the cars we discuss on this forum to get involved. That's what they're trying to do. Cap and trade is just the start. Throw in Global Warming and the moratorium on offshore drilling. Then all the fence sitters will be loud and political.
David, you're a great spokesman for our group, my hat's off to you brother, keep it up.
I should have noticed the smiley and didn't knew that CC was a politics free zone. Learn something new every day.

I got involved in politics, once... In Hawaii when there was no legal, NONE, zip, nada, way to register our Cobras on Oahu. It took a bunch of us and a dedicated effort, some time, but we got-r-done.
...and then I hung my hat up, that was enough politicing for me.

David,
Now for something totally different.
So your guest was very impressed with the performance of the car. Would you care to let us know the specifications of the car he rode in? Was it original suspension, billet, frame, engine, etc.
Regards,
Richard

Guys,
Thank you all very much for all the kind words. I sincerely appreciate them. It's hard to paint a bullseye on yourself and then start taking arrows. It's the kind words and encouragement that keep us all going. Let's please keep the "politics" on a VERY kind level here in this thread as we are treading on thin ice and Jamo is standing beside us
I want to comment on all of the above comments before we break through and Jamo finds that lock. I think many of the above comments (on both sides) need some clarification. You all might be surprised (again, both sides) on my observations and what I think the Tea Party movement is all about and where it is going.
I was out until past 2 am. I was interviewed by CBC and PJTV and KSL and I have an interview with the Boston Globe here in a few minutes so I have to run. Be right back.
Love you guys! (Both sides).
David

David, the battle may be more about the public perception of what the "Tea Party" stands for than your personal version or what your immediate Tea Party affiliates bring to the table.
You know the Tea folks have gotten some really bad press over time and the party is so wide spread and disconnected with it's various branches all over the country it is difficult to get a clear picture of what exactly they do or do not stand for.
A little negative press goes a long way in forming public opinion, much farther than a little positive press. Sad, but true, negative ad's do have an impact, even if they do irratate us.

If the tea party movement had worked as intended we'd have a fresh batch of third party (libertarian or constitutionalist) appointments. Like every other movement it's picked up it's fair share of fleas.
Telling Palin "You don't speak for us" would be a good start.
We've just slowed the bus down...
Sorry Jamo, just tellin it like I see it.

Havin read most of this thread, quite entertaining, some comments from an 'illegal alien'...
The tea party is reported, rightly or wrongly in the UK as a right wing fringe movement gathering momentum to the embarressment of the republican party, who fear that association with them will loose them seats in waivering marginal states. dont really know if this is correct or not.
I have never understood the american connection about beleiving in God and being a good politician. In the uk our PM has dubious church commitment, and the leader of the opposition is an aetheist. but here at least its irrelevant to the majority of policy (speaking as someone who is a beleiver in God). Perhaps we have bad political leaders here , im probably just a cynique.
i also didnt understand David's comment on socialism and serfdom.
regarding serfs: the surfs were freed in Poland in 1864, a year before the 13th Amendment (I think) freed the last black slaves in the Southern US states, and long before the communists took over. there was i beleive a lot of similar activity throughout the world at around that time. I think the only difference between the slaves and the serfs was that serfs were tide to an amount of labour associated with the land, that was owned by a landlord, and the slaves were tide to the land owner directly. most countries have had a slave labour force at one time or other.
im probably ignorant of US sentiment, but i also dont understand the socialism connection.
all the same, seems a little odd to mix poltics with a car forum - we have a sep section on the uk site for non cobra stuff.

Kevin you make some excellent points and for the most part I think your "spot on" (is that what they say over there?).
The esteemed David Kirkham gets and deserves considerably more lee way in these matters (political leaning threads) than anyone else would on this board. As it should be. His work for the Cobra community, his dedication to excellent principles of life and his good works on the behalf of humanity in so many areas just make him a cut above the rest of us "surfs".
