There's something a little funky about that dash. The dropped center on a 289 isn't actually in the center of the dash. Is that dash blank for something special?
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not cutting down the part, it just looks different than a standard 289 dash. Is the FIA car a little different?

Larry, funny you mentioned that as I noticed the same when I compared it to pictures I've compiled and I've spent the past few days thinking about whether I wanted one. The drop center seems to be shifted toward the driver on original dashes I've seen. It looks like the gauges on this dash (drilled version) may be in the same place in space, just with the drop center, "centered". Either way, instead of worrying about that I came to the conclusion that I can't replicate this piece as well as the Kirkham's and I can drill and / or trim to suit my taste and car. It also ocurred to me that I might be obsessing about things that don't matter all that much.

Yeah, no doubt about it, it's beautiful just like everything else Kirkhams make. I wouldn't let it bother me one bit!

Guy's the street dash is right, the way the Kirkhams have it. It does shift over a little bit towards the driver's side. The difficulty lies in trying to bend over the 90% edge with compound curves and not stretching the metal too much, warping or "coke canning" the metal. My dash was made for an original car and it really takes an artist to make one right. David's dash's are A LOT more cleaner than mine was due to the water jets and possibly stamping out the bends. Mine was hand formed and had to have taken hours to finish! These are incredible deals! I would get the gauges cut out as some of mine didn't "look" right sitting outside the car but once your in the car they're right! Some of the gauges seemed to be a little offset but they're right. The HARDEST part was the glove box door! I like mine BUT man was it a PIA to put in!! I do like the street dash but the FIA dash is pretty easier to work with. Good Luck! Matt

Sorry Matt but it's not. Not for a standard 289 MKII. That's why I wondered if it was for something special.
On a 289 street dash, the center line (from the U-shaped cut out at the top, down) should basically line up with the lowest right hand corner of the dropped portion. This could have been for something special or custom though. That I don't know.

Hey guys, I didn't want to get into a "which dash is correct" debate on David's Scratch and Dent thread. Kind of wish I hadn't pointed it out. I'm with jmimac351 in that if that's what he likes, go for it. Lets let David stick to selling what he has to sell.

Guys,

I go off with the family to get a Christmas tree and the thread grows by 2 pages with debates from across the world. If we had a big block vs. small block battle, the thread would be complete

It was great to get a tree tonight. Wandering through the smell of fir trees and brushing their needles with my hand transported me back to my younger days when I was a councilor with the Boy Scouts. There I explored countless miles of seldom walked trails in Yellowstone and Teton National Parks--perhaps the most beautiful places on earth. I have led more groups than I can remember through that back country among the lodge pole pines and alpine firs.

Being there tonight with my twin boys reminded me of a lofty goal on my bucket list--to climb the Middle Teton with my boys. We will complete that goal this summer. I was a 14 year old Boy Scout when when I first summited the Middle Teton with some of the other Camp Councilors. I have summited the Middle Teton seven times and the Grand Teton once. That really is why I started this thread in the first place. I built the gym at the shop to get back in shape so I could climb the Middle Teton again with my kids. They are growing up so fast. I want to show them the world from the peak. It is the most beautiful place on earth. When you climb a mountain, you are locked in a battle with yourself. Only you can bring yourself to the peak. No one can carry you. To conquer a peak, you have to conquer yourself.

This past summer we climbed Mt. Timpanogos together. For those of you who have been here in Provo, it is the majestic mountain the dominates our valley. Later, our family got within 1000 feet of the summit of Mt. Nebo as well, but had to turn back. Just last week we climbed the "Y" in a new record (for us). We've been training for this for a long time now.

The Grand Teton, at 13,775 feet, is the tallest mountain in this photo. The Middle Teton is the mountain just to the south (or to the left in this picture). At 12,804 it is a tough climb to make in a day--but that is how I have always summited the mountain.

Take those hikes and trips with the kids while you can … you don't get that time back and both you and the kids will have great memories for a lifetime. I have done the same with my family.

That is an awesome photo (and the story is great too)! My wife and I rode a Harley through that area this past July and unfortunately the weather was not as beautiful as the day your photo was taken. I was about 55-60 degrees and nothing but rain from south of Old Faithful to Jackson Hole. My wife is a trooper and never complained......She's a keeper!

Now, about the rest of the buried treasure.....any engine parts???

Sorry I haven't posted more parts in the past couple of days. I have spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Senator Hatch and doing interviews on the upcoming vote on the temporarily extending the tax cuts and extending unemployment (and other Tea Party related items). The more I hear about the bill, the more pork people find. It looks like another congressional luau. I don't think either side gets it.

Now, this is not an invitation to any political debate. Just letting you know there really are good reasons why I have been away. Tomorrow should be another great day of attic finds on the Kirkham Cobra Parts Roadshow.

This is a picture of me and my Scouting friends on the peak of the Middle Teton. I was 15 years old in this picture. I am 3rd from left. The group is of the waterfront staff. I taught canoeing, kayaking, rowing, sailing, swimming, and lifesaving that summer. I also guided a Scout troop into Alaska Basin and over Hurricane pass. Then, we crossed the Tetons, west to east, through Cascade Canyon, just north of the Grand Teton. It is one of the most spectacular hikes I have ever been on.
