690 is gettin' done
I worked out the last few details with Thomas last week on my 289 FIA and it should be ready at the end of this month. Here are a couple of pictures as it was leaving Poland:
Here's a shot of the engine. Its a Ford Boss 427 crate engine (yes, it's a 289 car, but there's no replacement for displacement!):
Things are getting exciting at my house!
Mark

Very nice and good choice on the engine!!! The extra 138 cubes should make that car fly.

Yeah, but it still looks like any other small block! It’s just sneaky.

Looks beautiful Mark! Engine looks great
It is funny that everyone gets their cars "name/number", when I've been asking for mine for weeks now and still don't know our serial number

Thanks everybody!
Jay, they are the tall covers from Tony Branda. I rotated the engine by hand and there are no issues. I'll test it again once I can spin the starter.

I want a dark blue, so I'm considering nightmist blue. A friend has a Mustang in that color and it is beautiful.

It is going to be a sexy car Mark!
With these cars, I've been thinking of paint jobs that have some unpainted elements (like meatballs, stripes, etc..). For example, a friend of mine has an amzing MV4 Augusta motorcycle which made out of carbon fiber (the body mostly). The paint job blends some subtle graphics with the exposed carbon fiber, then it is all cleard over. It looks so good.
So you could do that with the kirkhams (some people have done the reverse by painting the stripes and meatballs on the bare body.

I know they sell them as tall, but they are also really thick so just make sure.

DITTO, for what Cashburn says!! I've got the same valve covers and they hit my Comp Cams Stainless steel roller rockers. I ended up putting double cork gaskets with "Pam cooking spray" between the two gaskets. Works very nice BUT I needed that extra 1/8"! Looking good! Regards, Matt

Using olive oil is considered heart healthy as well, of course, when used in moderation. And I think FIA-ERA is a moderate kinda guy.
mreid, any stripes on this Kirkham? I think it would be neat, if you went with the navy blue, but left the center stripes brushed bare aluminum.

You mean the cork style with the steel insert? Or the old think corks doubled up? There's a part number that is really thick and has a steel core between them.

That was a good one! Made me chuckle a little!
I think your right Jay about the "thick" gasket. I couldn't find it and my patience was running out! It's hard enough to really find someone at the local parts house to track down anything! I used threaded valve cover studs, used some good ole 3M adhesive (black, no Gorilla snot!) and applied one to the head. I then applied the other casket to the valve cover and let set up over night. Someone told me to spray some "Pam" on the two surfaces and it would keep them from sticking. Well it all worked pretty well and gave me the extra room needed. I don't have stud girdles or anything really extraordinary but those valve covers did not clear my rockers! Very nice quality and they look the part, mostly. I just needed a pcv valve and didn't want to use my Buddy Bar covers with spacers.
Hey Jay, love the new cars your putting out these days! ALMOST, makes me want that new technology in a Cobra! They look pretty awesome, keep up the great work! Regards, Matt
