I would have called the police because you were driving to slow.

Were those your neighborhood roads or the Yellow Brick Road? Clean bucolic neighborhood you got there. Almost no traffic.

Your car looks great. Best of luck.

Thanks everybody for all the nice words! It has definitely been an awesome project. Lots of fun working on it, as well as frustrating at times, with a dash of "i have no freaking idea what is going", and some day-dreaming of one day driving it

I'm going to send in all the registration paperwork and wait the 1-2 months it takes to get plates . In the meantime, I'll going to redo the side pipes because of the sand in there, work on cleaning/tidying up the engine bay, check everything over again, and piss off the neighbors a few more times

I have to say our neighborhood is really nice. It is a small village and most people are nice. I've never had any problems before, even when I run my shifter kart down the same road, and most of those times, I'm really speeding .
Some people are just killjoys. But that's alright, once the plates are here, I'll be driving down that road, at the speed limit, and reving the engine And my neighbor who has a 68 Fastback "Eleanor" wants to join in on the fun.

Here are some recent pictures. It is pretty much the final look for the car. I need to touch up on some of the brushed look, and a full clean/wipe down.

Stroud. Kirkham provided. With the center cam lock. Not a big fan of the old school metal lever locks.

If you had told me in advance you were putting that color interior in that car I would have been nauseous. But man, you had great vision and it looks very nice. The car has a vintage patina but still looks new and crisp. I feel sorry for your neighbor with the Eleanor....he'll be looking at your tail lights a lot. Congrats and excellent work.

Hah, I didn't even pay attention to that. I was in a semi daze and hurry to put those back on. I thought it looked alright
I'm not sure which way I like best now...

Thanks! We wanted to go for the whole "patina-ed bomber jacket next to a shiny mustang (plane)" look. That aluminum is super pretty but it can be a bit "cold" so it needs a "warm" tone to go with.

Every CSX car I have ever seen has the quick jacks on like yours, it's for when they raced it was easier to get to the bolts if they needed to do any quick jack work, leave them how you have them, I might do the same.

Thanks, but unfortunately no real updates for you. I actually haven't taken the cover off the car in a week and a half This has been mostly due to work, vacation, finishing other projects, etc...

I got the replacement Classic Chambere exhaust sections (26", packed). I need to cut up the previous pipes, and reweld them with the new sections. Should be a days worth of work to do that and to make them look nice after. Afterward, they will be re-ceramic coated.

I think I might have found a small vacuum leak but from the information I got from FAST (in relation to the engine running rough down low), the engine needs to tune itself more.... We'll see.

I should have everything needed to send in my registration package this week to the State, and then we wait and let the inefficient, clueless, slow, Illinois registreting machine do the work...

Little update.

I sent in all the paperwork two weeks ago for the plates. I got a call from Nthe SOS office a week later verifying a few things (the "make" needs to be the brand of the car, not cobra. So in my case it is a 65 Kirkham)
And then today I got a call from the State Police wanting to come inspect the car. The person is coming on Tuesday After that, we'll see how long it takes to get the plates....

I really need to finish the details on the car now! I have not worked on the car for close to a month now (including two weeks of vacation which I'm almost done with). This news really gets me excited again

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Great update, Arnaud! They say it's for an inspection, but they really just want to come admire the car. Post some pictures of your beauty out in the sun. I think your interior choice with the aluminum body will look awesome.

The State Police officer just left my house, I should be getting plates in 2-3 weeks! *happy dance*

He was knowledgable and very nice. He looked at the vin, tranny tag, etc... then I started the car so he could evaluate the pipes ("a bit loud but it's alright, especially if you going to replace them" I told him about my issues with the ceramic coater who destroyed my muffler packing. I have a set of new pipes in the garage, I just need to weld them in), then looked at the lights, a few more things and that was it. Not even 30 mins.
For the motor, he said it will just be labeled as a "custom motor" and nothing more. He complimented me on the build.
He mentioned that these custom vehicles plates go through the process quicker then others... "They say a week and a half for plates, but I'll believe when I see it" hah. He said 2-3 weeks is more realistic, especially since they just got a bunch of layoffs in Springfield recently apparently.

In any case, I'm pretty excited!

I was also a little surprised when he called me and said "when can I come inspect the car?"... He also thanked me for being able to inspect the car today... huh...you're welcome?

I'm happy you had better results than I did.

Back in 2001 when I finished my Lone Star Cobra, Nebraska did not have a provision for them, now they do. Either a "kit car" or "assembled vehicle" (like a home built trailer)

Before I even bought the kit I called our courthouse asking what I needed, and so everything should have been easy,.......not !
When I was finished, I called our local sheriff and she stopped by my house.
Lone Star is recognized by the state of Texas as a coach builder and even had a vin plate on the fire wall and MSO. She looked at all my paper work and said, "great car, go get her licensed".

The DMV was not,.... going to give me a title, as I needed one of either the engine, frame or body. I went to the Sheriffs office and told them what was going on. he went with me and told the DMV to give this man a title, but they told him the same story. So, I told the Sheriff that I would go home and look at a Hot Rod Magazine and see if I could find a junk yard that were selling titles, and he said, "I know what you mean, and go for it" !

I paid $100 for a 1966 Ford convertible title, rather than paying the tax's for my $40,000 Cobra. IDIOTS !

What paper work did you have to have ?
