Hey Arno-
What's unsafe about the pedal position?

Your car looks terrific.
I had a similar issue with the speedo in my Kirkham, although mine registered 180 whilst stationary (and clocked up miles).
The is a little purple loop of wire sticking out the back of the speedo and I was advised by KMS to cut it, which I did and it has been perfect ever since.

First of all, I know that the pedals are pretty far left due to the lay out of the car and to keep with the originality of the car, but we still don't like it. When sitting in a normal driving position (angled slightly left), the clutch pedal is where you would expect the brake pedal to be, and the gas pedal is where the brake pedal should be (all this in relation to the steering wheel). In an "emergency" situation, it could get very ugly very quickly if you mashed the wrong pedal, especially with that kind of power. I know a lot of pedal will say "just drive like a crab, sitting sideways the whole time". I don't think we have to resort to that, when the pedals can be moved to the right about one inch easily. Oh, and the current layout makes it harder to heel-and-toe also.
So the gas pedal will be bent to the right a bit, and the other two will have to be cut and rewelded towards the right as I don't want to bend them again (came with the bent from KMS and I don't want to weaken the metal by more bending).
Of course all this is mostly based on our opinion, but I have driven many, many cars, and this one is the only one that made me think "man this pedals are weird/this could be bad if someone hits the wrong ones!"

Hi Arnaud,
That is one great looking & sounding Cobra. Barry R certainly does a good job building FEs. He's building mine right now (after a long wait), I hope it sounds as good as yours!

Well my vast experience is driving a rental Backdraft for about 45 minutes. It does take a bit getting used to the pedal location. The guy at the rental place was very concerned that I would be stepping on the wrong pedals.
I managed to use the pedals correctly, but forgot about avoiding the side pipes when exiting the car and got a snake bite (burn on my leg).

I positioned my seat to the right when I had my Superformance, Olthoff had a kit that I used, plus I raked the seat back a few degrees, made a world of difference...

I've done that too. It hurt for 2 weeks! There is still a nice scar on my leg from it!

Very good to hear that its running well - finally!
Had not heard from you for a while...and kept intending to follow up on progress.
Took a little arm-twisting to get us credit for the "used" EZ-EFI as a trade up for the xFI package. We really tried to tune this thing on the chassis dyno and the EZ-EFI simply would not let us grab the tune-up it needed at that RPM level. It needs to dwell at a given RPM and load for the self learning function and for some reason it never would stabilize enough to get the job done.
I was pretty confident that the xFI system would work just fine since it lets you manually manipulate all the variables without the system needing to "learn". If you see a dead lean area that's causing crazy manners you just go in there and throw fuel at it until it stabilizes & tune from there.
Great job!

Barry, I looked in your gallery hoping to see some pictures of your engine builds but was disappointed you haven't posted any.
Maybe in the future?

I usually post stuff on my web site, on Youtube, and on the FE Forum(s).
I have not really taken full advantage of the opportunities here - but I should be more active. Seems I have become so busy personally between family and business that even a few minutes have become hard to pull aside lately.

Great build thread, I will be doing the same soon with a CXS build. I am also using a cross ram EFI manifold. We will not be using a distributor due to clearance issues, we will use a cam sync sensor. Reading this thread makes me happy I decided on a megasquirt. We are building a CSX aluminum block 4.250 bore 482CI motor. This thread was very helpful, THANK YOU.
