Default 289FIA hood ducts (on KMP485)

I'm intrigued by the dual hood ducts and latches on the 289 Kirkham for sale at the moment. What's the history behind these?

Also, do the 289FIA bodies sit up so high at the back that the IRS is visible, or might this be the high rear stance of this particular car?

What a lovely car! Replica/Kit Makes : Kirkham | eBay

The ride height is high. I was also curious about the "Tiger LAT" type ducts in the hood.

And what's up with the Chevy orange bellhousing?

BTW, the car is listed on the Fantasy Junction website for $82,500.

I don't think those are latches on the top of the hood, I think they are Dzus fasteners. If so, they "turn" to tighten, much like you would a small ratchet handle. They are very small and contribute very little to the wind resistance.

Dzus fastener - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cheers!

Interesting idea Maxum. That's how I'd use them, but are they actually air extraction vents? Were these ever fitted to CSX cars back in the day?

Dugly, they look a bit like Dzus fasteners from the outside, but they're proper latches by the looks of things...

The early cars had the "Triumph" style "T" key type of latch with a hinged cover that you lifted and then inserted the "T" key and turned. Not handy on a race car, so the "T" key was replaced with a "wing" permanently attached to the latch so crew would not need to fumble with a key to open the bonnet.

FWIW, on my screen the bellhousing looks like a Lakewood (red).

Sure appears so from that under-the-hood view !

I like the handles on the outside of the hood....much "cleaner" looking than the T-handles I've seen on many hood latches.

Cheers!
