Default Kirkhams are incredibly tough cars

Check out Kirkham University Aluminum Fender Dent Repair on youtube. I could not beleive my eyes. Anybody that feel Kirkhams are fragile due to their aluminum bodies need to check out the video. I have to get one of these one day!!!!

Well, yes and no. The video on that site shows a different forming technique that they use or are going to use (for the coupe I thnk?) but not the ones used on the current cars. If you did that to a current alum panel it would fold in pretty easily (under the same circumstances)

Not only can be rock dings be easily repaired, matching the texture is also straight forward. Obviously most dont stand a chance of repairing major damage as in the video but the aluminium is extremely ductable.

It looks so easy when a professional shows you how. David used at least seven different tools. The average guy would need hours of practice learning when and why. Truly an art! Some got it, some don't. Maybe the trick is in that office chair he used. But the first rule would be go slow and be patient.

Amazing work showing 14 hours of craftsmanship in 14 minutes. I certainly hope I never have to do that to mine...

The one question I have after watching that video is concerning the annealing. Annealing softens the aluminum allowing it to be worked without cracking. Now that it is returned to shape, doesn't it need a finishing heat treatment to be the same hardness as the rest of the body (some work hardening will occur, but it is not uniform)? Will this section now always be softer and subject to damage? Where are the metallurgists?!
