Removal of drivers seat
Is it difficult to remove the driver’s seat in a Kirkham? I haven't even explored this, but I'd like to remove the driver’s seat to take it in for repair for a small tear. That seems to be a better option than leaving the car with the repair shop.

Mine just has four nuts, easily accessible from under the car. It took me 10 minutes to get it out.

The two outboard ones can be reached top and bottom to stop the head of the bolt turning reaching through the open door. The inboard two I put small vice grips on the head and go under to undo the nuts. If there's another pair of hands it's easy to just have them hold the heads, well if you are smarter than me you'd have them go under and you'd hold the heads ;-)

Tim,
If the Kirkhams are like the SPF's it should take you about 5 minutes. Loosen 4 bolts from underneath the seat. That's it!!

OK, as long as you guys are on a roll, what's the best way to clean stains off of the underhood and inner fender aluminum panels. This car needs lots of cleaning. I did a quick job with polishing compound and didn't do much. A labor of love, but CSX4188 is getting better each day.

Lacquer thinner or brake spray and if they are real grungy use a piece of scotch brite with the cleaner.

I was surprised how small the seat bolts are, but I guess that is all you need with grade 8 stuff.

Scotch Brite worked great on the inner fenders, it smoothed and cleaned them better than I imagined.

Keep in mind that the only thing the seat bolts do is keep the seat in place so they don't need to be beefy. The "body retention" comes from the lap and/or shoulder belts. You want to make sure those are anchored to the frame.
