FE off centre ?...
Hi guys,
Unless I am going mad , is it normal for my FE to be off centred on my Kirkham ?
Cannot get the traditional oval air cleaner to sit right!
Thanks,
Soul.

Yes,
The engine is offset on a 427 Cobra and the Kirkhams have replicated that also.

If my memory serves me correctly, the FE is offset to the right and tilted aft about 7 degrees.

Yes the 427 engine is offset in a Kirkham exactly the same as the original cars. Also, if you have an Aviad oil pan, you will notice that the 'wings' are different left & right to take account of the offset and keep the chassis tube to oil pan clearance the same each side.

You can always move the hole in your air cleaner to align it with the hood scoop!!!!

It is purely down to the input pinion offset of the 4HU salisbury differential unit.

Didn't they make a offset intake manifold called the sidewinder for 427 engine?

i am converting my hi tech to rhd , and if you do not keep the engine in the palce it was on the lhd cars , you get a terrible angle on the propshaft ujs. i know after 3 sets of engine mounts and loads of tinkering. The footboxes are also set out to accomodate the engine offset. Again in the rhd makes the steeruing and drivers footbox extremely tight.
I suppose that fitting a 351c has not made it any easier, as the starter is close to the frame rail.

I make it 40 mm or in pre dinosaur times 1.5 inches.
