400 is not much. A power upgrade is not cheap either. I suspect in the scheme of that machine it is not significant. Did you need to buy software? Sometimes that is the staggering cost. I suspect you have all the modeling software.

400 amps is not much at all--we can't even use our new monster and I'm not happy about it. Upgraded power will run just under $100,000. Only the government can get away with charging you $$$ to sell you more product (impact fees). We don't own the building so I am hesitant to dump tons of money into upgrades. Also, we are completely out of space. I really need a new building.

We have lots of software here--both CAD and CAM. It is enormously expensive. We probably have $100,000 in software alone.

How about the impact of not creating revenue/taxes?

But consider yourself lucky. Out here, you have to collect gophers and find them a new hole.

As far as power, same drill in many locations. You come in with a requirement for a bunch of power, they lick their chops. I actually had a client that was charged for a sub station just for his facility. And he was bringing a ton of jobs and tax money to the area.

Doesnt sound too much different to down under, utility providers that have rules to suit themselves and they write them rules so that they have no competition and then extract as much cashola from you as humanly possible.

I always love the way that they expect/demand payment in advance of doing the job and then give unrealistic time frames for delivery.
