@restocreation
one question occures while reading...
what was your plan in the first place?
building a car for selling it and earning some money
or building it for your own joy?

Excellent question. If he made the car to sell for profit, he made a BAD choice.
If he made it to enjoy, he made a great choice (subjective, really, but we can grant him that one).
The day will come when I sell my hot rod, and I'll take a bath. But I built it for me to enjoy it. Anybody who is looking to get their money back, or make a profit, from a hobby car isn't being realistic. Sure there were times when you could get a roller for $XXX, then the prices would go up and you could sell it for more, but that's NOT a hard and fast rule. If you can't afford to have that "asset" disappear without a trace (or recover a dollar from insurance) and not sweat a dime, then you have no business owning a fun car as absurd as a Cobra.
Now, about that black paint...

There's still time to add a second roll bar and paint it beige.

That would make it worth ERA 732...

Wait a minute, this car isn't the same as the "flood car," right? I think that was a CSX car. Did that guy end up making money on that deal?

No, you're thinking of rsimeos and the Iron Man car that accidentally ran over his wife's foot.

I had to go back and look at resto's history, because I was confused. Resto built/rebuilt the "Ironman" 427 S/C (Kirkham).
Snakehunter rebuilt the "flood car" CSX4158.

You've managed to combine three or four separate horror stories in to one big f*** up. It's hard to make a buck in the Cobra replica game. You're way better off as just looking at it like a trip to the islands. When it's over, you will have enjoyed yourself, but you will have less money in your pocket than when you started.

All those issues and you rolled it into a “no reserve” auction? Hmmm....

rsimoes built (work actually by David Wagner) a 527ci Kirkham 427 S/C, spent about $127,000 (and that was a very long time ago) and ultimately sold it on eBay for $88,000. That was an awesome build. I think I put in a bid on that car.

Can we please keep these great Cobra build stories straight for heaven's sake?

Talk about a value killer. Beige paint, 428 engine and two roll bars. Might as well drive it into the local river and collect the insurance money to be made whole.
After quiickly reviewing Resto's build thread for his Kirkham 289 FIA, I have to say, there seemed to be a lot of "custom" work done to that car. And the Ford Racing 363 with the high port heads wasn't the best choice IMO. But I'm a sample of one.

If that was one person's story, it would have been worthy of a Lifetime channel movie of the week.

Of all my favorite Cobra-Gone-Bad stories, rsimoes takes the cake. It's followed closely by Tinman's sad story, but the fact that there was an injury on that one takes it off the table.

True. I didn't mean to make light of the situation. Just that it was a saga.

Hopefully the new owner is enjoying it.
They may have even stayed away from here due to the story...

Last time I chatted with him, he had decided to keep the car and "give it one last chance." Apparently, all family members were on board with that decision.

Agree - and BTW I have had nothing but great support from David and his guys.
The OP here knew what he was buying going in - yes aluminum is softer than steel and it dents and scratches. You polish it out (not that hard) or you live with the road scars (badge of honor). Take some responsibility here and quit moaning because you didnt make a profit.

At a local Cars and Coffee get together a few month ago, there was a Kirkham 427 that was unpainted, kind of dirty, wheels had brake dust on them, engine wasn't bright and shinny... you get the idea. I liked it and I usually don't like unpainted cars. The body was what I would describe as oxidized brushed. Beyond filed for sure but not polished! It had a 'used' look to it, a couple road scars, a couple small dents but it was pretty cool! Only thing I didn't like was the polished stripes but whatever.
