Original CSX3000 owner in the 70's. Sold in 1980. Regrets ? NO !! Also had one of the 66 GT350 convertibles (1 of 4). Bought it the year before I got the Cobra . They did continuation ones of them to. Quality was something to be desired BUT it did bring more knowledge about the originals. Sold mine in 2015 an bought a CSX4000 car. Always had a Shelbys since 1971 and I wanted a Shelby car. Wasn't a big decision to me. Now 5 years later I am getting the itch to move on again. Old age does that to ya Oh goin threw old Cobra paperwork an found a brochure from ERA from the 80's I think. Really liked the Kirkhams and ERAs. Time marches on.

I loved my Cobra, wife hated it. Bought a Ford GT to replace the Cobra. Both gone. Had some Shelby Mustangs too (08 Barrett Jackson Shelby GT convertible x 2). Regrets? Only that I didn't get the toys sooner. The end game was coming at the same point, so I should have started playing earlier Wife gave permission to get one of the SGTs back, but would sooner get a new eco-boost convertible.

I have had that question. At least they're interested enough to ask, better than feigning (or real) indifference.

Mike,
Is the Ford GT a replica of what? Not sure what your point is?
It certainly isn't a replica of a Ford GT40, MkI or MkII.
A late model Ford GT can't be mis-represented as, or mistaken for, a '60 GT40.

Cheers!

Just revisiting this site and thread.

Insults? Really? I’m a drunk, troll, stupid, etc. I’ll tell you what I don’t do. I don’t insult people. But, look, we’re both living in the SF Bay Area. Wear a face mask, keep 6’ of social distance and we’ll meet and I’ll tell you to your face you’re driving a Shelby replica.

You’re entitled to your opinion. And I’m entitled to mine. There’s absolutely nothing you, Tony or Peter can say to change my mind. Especially if you own a fiberglass/other than alloy Shelby replica

I tell the ones that ask if it is real that I built it out of an old VW bug that I found rusting away in a pasture.

Is it a replica? How about the Dodge Challenger? The Ford GT and the Dodge Challenger are COMPLETE modern production cars that meet all Federal emissions and safety laws. And can be purchased right off the lot with the dealership registering the car for you. No SPCNS or special registrations necessary. No engine, transmission and sorting necessary.

Precisely.

But, Some people don;t want a current challenger, they want an old one.

What if Dodge produced and sold a new 1970 Hemi Challenger convertible again, less engine / tranny, identical to an "original" 1970 hemi challenger convertible, and sold it as a finished roller, as it doesn't meet the current emissions / safety stuff.

Would you buy one ? I'd buy one. Obviously, they never will do this.
Would this be a replica ? Real ? Fake ? Continuation ?

Well, the way I view it is that this is what Shelby has done, offered basically the same car he sold 55 years ago, to buy that car again, but obviously with the exception that it cannot be purchased as a completed vehicle. If that's what you got to do to get around the Feds, then you do it. If you want a new emission and crash compliant cobra, then buy a viper, except, well, they stopped those as well.

I feel better now.

BTW If someone asks me if it is real, I always answer "NO" . I am tired of talking to people.

Yep. Jaguar did precisely this. Everyone praised them and in the same sentence condemned Shelby. Everyone here loves to hate Shelby. Yet, if he didn't do what he did, this little space and time wouldn't exist. AC would have fallen into the dumpster to be a second Berkeley.
