Default Le Mans Hardtop

Steve - any thoughts of making a Le Mans Hard Top in the future?

Reading over this thread got me thinking....

Not the whole car, just the top....

Thanks,
Craig Marsh

Did the Lemans hardtops go on the 289 cars? I want one.
Steve, can you do 'em in aluminum in the 1.5k to 2k range? Better yet, put one on Ebay!

Cool

Guys,

I'm still working on the Lexan Windscreen Project. Give me a little time.

Also, I'd probably have to have one to copy. Anybody got one?

Steve.

Unhappy

OK,

I just read the thread. It's gonna be a long time before we make one, if ever.

If somebody is dying to throw money at the project, it could probably get hurried up; but I just don't see much demand. Ergo, it will be highly non-cheap.

Steve.

OK - well then how about an aluminum tonneau cover?

I would even settle for the plans for an aluminum tonneau cover!

Who the heck is Ergo?

Steve, could one top be manufactured that would fit the 289 and the 427? If so I bet there would be a huge demand(like 90% of KMP & CSX owners). I'm guessing that one top wouldn't fit both and that there aren't enough 289 cars to justify the top.
Can't you just have one of those guys at the factory toss a piece of aluminum on the english wheel and turn one of those puppies out?

KentuckyFriedNewCar...
...you poor boy, blinded by the aluminum...
Have you ever actually see the LeMans HardTop?
Do you know that you can't open the trunk with it on?
Do you know you can't get to the gas cap with it on?
Do you know big people can't get in the car with it on?

Still want one?

mind the headline "Le Mans Hardtop" .

This hardtop is from the same manufacturer who makes the one of the real 39PH. His name is Gerry Hawkridge from UK. In near future you'll get this hardtop from Kirkhammotorsports exported to US. It' make of glasfibre.
As I know Tom, we can get those in Alloy, fitted to the 289 also in the next time.

But Model Box in Italy makes a 1/43 model of "645 CGT" the white with 2 blue stripes Le Mans 289 !!!

1. Split lid!
2. How much extra fuel can you hold in a foot long, 6" pipe up to the roof?
3.My Dad is 6'1", used to fit just fine, with helmet!

Seriously, if you don`t plan on taking the top off & on much, how much sweeter does it look than a bubble top or ragtop? It`s gotta be worth the extra effort IMVHO! (By the way, the Hawk top(& car for that matter)looks VERY accurate.)

I'm playing with an aluminum hardtop project. I have the basic shape I want, but I need to learn more about the construction techniques used on the original. I have the basis english wheel skills, but I need to learn how to weld aluminum.
Here is a link to my project.

The LeMans cars that had hardtops were 289`s. There were only 3 made, of which only 2 were used at LeMans.See this thread for more detail

Default Unique Motorcars LeMans top

Unique Motorcars lists a Le Mans Hardtop for sale for $3,500. I could only find this one photo of it. Does anyone out there have a Unique with a Le Mans top to share some photos with us?
