No chatter needed, the big hitters are swinging at this one with 7 days to go.

No sh*t! Swing away. What's with the "S" and the low serial number?

"S" is for smallblock
Low serial number is for the consecutive build order of the car in the small block series, as in "S034" is the 34th leafspring 289 FIA car.
The Hybrid's (289 body on 427 chassis) get 427 serial numbers ending in X.
This is all subject to change, when/if we get a different system in place.

Steve, I noticed this in the ad.
"PLEASE NOTE: This is a new 2003 Kirkham 289 FIA. A problem with eBay's listing software prevents listing this as a 2003, so it's listed as a 1964. "

Well, if the car is 1981 or newer, it requires a 17 digit VIN. No iteration of the KMP manufacturer's serial numbers works, so we can't use a meaningful number without causing a problem.
So we have to list them as some year before 1981, and 1964 is the year of the car they replicate. Apparently some states actually title the car as the year of the car it replicates. Hence, 1964 is probably the best pre-1981 year to use. 1965 for the 427's
I also put into the ad the part about being manufactured in 2003 because we don't want any confusion.

our auctions
All Kirkham Motorsports car auctions start at $1, no reserve. When a Kirkham goes on eBay, it starts at $1 and no reserve. We haven't had a problem yet, and we'll keep doing it this way until we have one.
Normally, the cars go for a bit less than retail, but the advertising is great. Since there are also people who don't want to bother with the uncertainty of an auction, they can call up and buy something else.
Meanwhile, bidders have incentive, because there's no wait. The car is done, and the pictures are of exactly what you're bidding on. I take the pictures with the idea that prospective buyers will be as suspicious and untrusting as I am, and will want to see everything, from every angle.
Why no reserve?
Because it's just too easy for the seller to abuse the system with reserves.
How? Put a $900,000 reserve and wait for the auction to end. Look at the top bidder's highest allowed bid and send an 'eBay second chance offer' for the max he was willing to pay. Legal, but not really honest, in our opinion.

Steve - I was high bidder on the hybrid Cobra on Ebay last month. The FIA you now have on Ebay has the oil cooler opening under the nose, and mine does not. Any particular reason?

Some were made with, some without. Depends on what exactly was ordered at the time.
I think (but could be wrong) that some of the 'without's were later modified.
