It's 'bout to get Hot in Here

I just thought I would drop a couple of pictures for any other wimps that would dare to think of putting a heater in their car. I have the firewall all insulated and sealed and I'm starting reinstall all the firewall component and to wire in a few extras. I think the Vintage Compac Heater is going to work out nicely though. I just have to figure out where to put the vacuum switches.

Has anyone tried an electric heater? One benefit is that you aren't plumming hot coolant through the interior when not in use. I believe that some of the street rod are using electric heaters.

Actually, the Vintage Air heater comes with a vaccum valve, so hot coolant only comes in when you turn on the heater. I'm waiting on my MSD ignition from Keith Craft Motorsports to finish the heater installation and button up the dash. The bulkhead fittings will go beside the MSD box, so I need the box to get the maximum spacing.

Well, here is an update. The heater is in. It got a little crowded in there and the wires are a nest (not caused by the heater, but it didn't help either). I don't know how you fix that without ripping out the harness and going with electric gauges. Heater controls flip down under dash when you want to use the heater. Water to the firewall is through a bulkhead fitting. Fitting should be close to in line with just outside of the passenger valve cover (right where I would run the heater hose.)

Here is what it looks like after I buttoned up the dash.

Dreamer,
That's the same heater we use in the Cobras and small streetrods we build. It really does work well for taking the chill off.

What works "trick" on the engine side of things is to use the same type fitting on the block that is supplied for the heater box connection. (They're actually AC fittings.) They allow you to have a 90' bend from the motor, keeping the hose nice and tight to the intake vs. a large loop.

Those are some really cool pics. I have never wanted a heater in my car and I have not noticed it too much when it is really cold outside. It is nice to see you guys showing each other what you are doing. It even gives us some really great ideas....like the seat heaters. I may have to install some of those.
