Kirkham owners, differential question
Well, my car is in Provo and I'm trying to decide which rear differential to use. I know about Kirkham's all aluminum piece, but the less I spend on this the more for my motor. How many of you used a reconditioned Jaguar unit, from what model/year, and how much do you have invested in it now?
Thanks for the help

I have just been pricing up a Kirkham, it seems if you go for a Jag rear end there is a saving of around $2.5k dollars, i had a quote for a rebuilt jag rear for $1570 incl shipping.
Good luck on choosing John

i forgot to mention that apart from the alloy center section housing they are really both the same diff Dana 44 you can have any ratio you like with either, ok there is about 50lb weight saving but the iron case is more original.

I know guys don't usually volunteer mucho details but could you tell me where you got yours, or what model Jag it came from. Not too many Jaguars dealers in S. Idaho, and Salt Lake City or Boise are about 180 miles away. On the other hand just to help you people out if you need something from John Deere or CaseIH, let me know. ( Sad isn't it) If you can put me in touch with someone who rebuilds that would work too. Oh yeah, Rich Lacy called me this afternoon and my car will be here about 9:00 am Wednesday morning. I can't believe the day is finally upon me! I wonder whats in the 21 boxes coming with my car?

John
My Jag came from the Kirkhams. Had one on my Butler and found a good Jag mechanic and sources for parts locally though the local Jag Club.
Check with David or Tom as to where they got supplied from.
I'm moving this to the Kirkham mfg forum so it'll stay up on the page.

Thanks Jamo, I spoke with David and they don't get involved with the Jag differentials now, but Mary called me back and told me I could use the diff from a Jag XJ12.
xlr8or, Yes I was one of the 427F guys, but now I'm one of the shiny aluminum guys. Rich Lacy dropped my car, KMP 393, here earlier this week. I wonder if I get one of those cool Kirkham logos next to my name now?

John congrats on the upgrade. I will be interested to see what you get for the diff as I need one of those too. I was actually going to call ERA and Unique since they both use the Jag diff and see if that is the same one I would need. They both rebuild them in house.

X-man, good idea, let me know what you find out. How long have you had your car? I originally was interested in the Hybrid the K brothers produce and I was going to put a stroked 351 in that, a 393 actually. Now i have a 393 of a different kind, weird huh!

I had two Jag diffs but ended up going with the Kirkham piece. I got both units off of ebay for about 300 each if I remember. One turned out to need a total rebuild the other was good, both posi and both out of 68 69 jags. There are some Jag web sites that carry the units. chuck

Another option in buying differentials is from Jag Heaven. We have not delt with them personally but have heard good things about them. Their phone number is 800-969-4524. The XJ-12s come with the 4 pinion power lock which is stronger than the two pinion power locks that came in the 6 cyl. cars. I believe that they are in Stockton Calf.
