Smile Kirkham Manual Test, Please Comment

Gents,

We are working hard on putting an assembly manual together for our customers. I would really like some feedback on what you think as a prospective customer, current customer, and past customer...or just someone who is browsing.

Please comment and let me know how we can do better with our manual.

Kirkham Assembly Manual Test

Many thanks in advance,

David

Fritz! Hello! Did you get the suspension and all of the other pieces? I hope so.

I think I will have to leave the German to you. I could only effectively translate it into Polish and Spanish.

David:

Well done! Even I can understand it!

But I don't agree with your advice on the phillips head screws. Use slotted screws, work carefully, and the reward is a more accurate car.

Looks great so far.
You probably already have this planned and assuming this will apply to the car in a box idea, here's the things I could have use pictures/instructions for:
Fuel line routing
Radiator shrouding
Ebrake install and cable routing
Brake and clutch plumbing
fresh air box
Pedal box assy
Suspension (pics were already on your site)
Oil Cooler (haven't gotten to that one yet)

David, that looks great so far! It's already answered some questions about the car that I had in my mind.

David,

Nice crisp clean pictures coupled with concise, straight forward direction......I'll rate it at an "A" for now......Work for that extra credit and get an "A+" .

Default Manual

Love it.
The world will love it.
It will sell cars and be a cut above the rest.
For those putting together an original style Cobra such as a Kirkham and no access to an original that you can get down and dirty with, this makes it a no-brainer.

But David....
I didn't see a photo of the 4 wheel steering install

Actually, David wanted Malone and me to pose in the interior installation pics...but Mary wasn't real happy about the idea.

Go figure.

For "Shift boot" you have photos of a hood and the left side door.

Everything else looks nice.

Scott,

It is in the works. We are trying to have every nut, bolt, and screw illustrated. I will post more as we get them. Eventually, we hope to have a complete manual on an original car as well.

Kris,

Thanks!

David

David,

To you and the crew, this is a Great start and I look forward to the continuing chapters.

In addition to the many obvious areas that are still in the works, may I suggest a way to request Patterns for things.

For example,
my carpet came in a roll,
the rubber matting for the wheel wells seems to have patterns that you use
the cutout for the sidepipes
others???

Somewhere on the list might be some optional work (I know first things first).
For example,
What if I want to run a double fuel pickup system?
What if I want to run a return fuel line?
What if I want to put the fire system in the trunk?
What if I want to put a breather differential catch in the trunk?

Don't forget the, what if I want to rewire the dash section

Also, don't overlook the opportunity to go over the simple things too. As you might have observed, Morris has a great writeup on ANs hose fittings. Actually, Morris has numerous writeups, all of which are great!!!

Other great suggestions on wiring and component quality from Turk. Pat Buckley has modifications unlike any others too -- love that windscreen Pat... Lots of wisdom around that helps in finishing what KMP started... Heat reflection in the engine compartment.

It would be nice to have a section (or web location) where owners couple contribute customizations that they wish to share.

I'm sure that KMP has tons of ideas too, and it all begins with a start --- thanks for hearing the people.

This is HUGE winner for ALL.

Thanks
Scott

David,

Some things are more easily seen with a diagram as opposed to a photograph. Pieces with multiple bushings or spacers are more easily visualized in a diagram rather than a photograph when they are all together. I appreciate all the effort you are making to make our building simpler. Thanks Jim

David, would you happen to have a link to a suspension page?

SFCJ,

No suspension page yet. We are actually working on the pages as people call in with questions.

Jim,

You are very right. Some of the pictures are not as easy to "read" as I wish they were. Working on that. Good suggestion, though.

Scott,

Pat has a really, really nice car. I do love the windscreen. Morris' car is over the top and he is a big reason for a lot of the evoloution of the car lately. Most of our customers who have customized their rides have really made them nice.

Working on the other suggestions. Thanks for the comments.

David

David,

If you put these out in "printed format", I know it's old school, it would be an instant collectible item for the future COBRA memorabila collectors, a possible way to help pay for your efforts.

I have thought of this for many years and do not have the time, "printshop" or "photog" skills.

While it would be invaluable for those that are building "OTHER THAN KMP" Cobras, it will be a 100% asset to the owners of the KIRKHAM in the same type format.

Oh, CD's in PDF format will be spot on for all, think about a printed version.

As usual you and Kirkham Motorsports's efforts are always at the tops in the effort and quality you put forth on your COBRAs.

David,

Great start to the manual. Very informative. Could add comment that trunk stay is sensitive to the direction that it is installed.

I am in the process of installing my carpet and had a heck of a time working on the trans tunnel last night. Your comment about sanding the back of the wool carpet is in the nick of time and saved a phone call to your shop. See how helpful this was!! Will try this again with sanding.

You won't believe this, but 007 is nearly ready to fire. Will be on the ground on all 4 wheels this weekend with gas in the tank.

Best regards
Bert Brown
