New Billet Radiator Surge Tank from Kirkham
I spoke with David K. this week and he shared some info about a new accessory from Kirkham.
They made a Billet Radiator Surge Tank.
David said, "...I got really sick of the old radiator surge tanks leaking and causing us so many problems. So, a few weeks ago I told my machinist I had had it and handed him a tank and told him to make it out of billet aluminum!"
"...We also made the connection to the engine seal with an o-ring. No more messy silicon on the gasket.
We also made the opening for the radiator thermostat SMALLER so you can now use the VERY common small block thermostats. The big thermostats are getting harder and harder to find so we just gave up. There is a much better selection of the small block thermostats anyway."

Retail price on the tanks is $500, with a 20% discount to KMSAC members.

Now we need an oil vapor separator tank to match it.
While we're at it, a cool dropped base larger capacity air filter would really round out the engine compartment.

I looked at the prices of standard tanks from two popular suppliers. A black painted or bare brass tank was $350 and a chrome plated tank was $395. With the 20% discount, the Kirkham tank is $400.

You may be referring to Finish Line as one of the "popular suppliers". Their prices are outrageously high as well. They're making a fortune on everything they sell.
I think I would take my chances at a swap meet/Ebay. I bought 2 tanks for $25. Both are in excellent shape. I sold one and made a profit over both tanks. I kept the other one for myself. It's solid, no leaks...just needs a good paint job and a cap.

I can hear the wife now....."But what's wrong with the old one???" Heaven forbid if I said that about her new shoes.
Looks like a great piece....just going to have to make due right now with my flipped tank.

Just spill some coolant and the floor and tell her the old one leaks and can't be repaired.

I bought a stainless steel one from Southern Automotive. 420.00 plus shipping. 400.00 for the Kirkham piece looks really good.

IMO, it looks like the perfect "gotta have it" accessory.
Especially compatible with those who already have an aluminum body, aluminum engine, aluminum rad, and um what else in aluminum? Too cool.
