Smile Roll Bar Height?

Is the Kirkham rollbar a couple of inches higher than an original? Thanks

So in case I wanted to install a roll bar cross brace on a actual Kirkham......What is the diameter of the roll bar tubes? Can anyone help - As you can see I am still putting together my liste for a KMP..........

Any help will be highly appreciated!

You know I had to answere this question. I started this thread before my KMP 498- It was only a gleam in my eye at the time. Now it is one of the pleasures of my life.

OK. Tubing is 1.5in OD, Top of hoop is 14.5in up from couling at centerline of hoop and the hoop downtubes are 12in center to center. Anything else just ask because I have the pleasure of walking outside and taking the measurement. Good luck on your quest- well worth the effort.

Big Boss: Wow - Thanks for all the information you provided -

Really appreciate it and it appears as if KMP 498 has just found the owner in you who is enjoying this particular cobra every day - That is the way it should be once everything works out well! - I hope (and am optimistic) that the same will happen to me with my alu-one

As the project is gonna be realized pretty soon I am already about to list all the bits and pieces I will need to order separately from the car and one of them will be the roll bar x member (won´t go for the Kirkham roll bar with the horizontal link) as well as some things related to the top of the car. So due to your help another "?" to be deleted from my "open questions paper" (long list getting shorter and shorter now so this mean there is less excuses not to order)

Remember that if you lower the roll bar yourself, the rear brace is now at a different angle and likely won't fit into the rear mount anymore, and it will no longer line up correctly with the hole in the body where it enters. If you decide you want the roll bar to be lower, make sure you have the Kirkhams do it before delivery (if they even perform this service).

Amazing...I've been curiously wondering about this myself. If the bodies come from Poland without the holes, then this could be (more easily) rectified. FWIW, I have always thought that the Kirkham roll bar looked a little high. I understand the safety aspects of the higher bar...lopping off one inch of that height would do wonders in the "sets just right" department.
